The Best Later Alternatives in 2026: 8 Tools Compared

What's the best Later alternative? Postprism is the best Later alternative in 2026: it publishes one brand to 6 networks, including X, Bluesky and full-length YouTube, for $19 a month flat with unlimited posts, writes a native version for every network in one Enhance with AI request, and includes an MCP server for AI agents on every plan. Planoly suits Instagram-first creators who sell through a link in bio, Buffer suits people on a few channels who want a free plan, Metricool suits analytics-led marketers with many small brands, Iconosquare suits reporting-heavy brands, Publer suits budget users who need extra networks like Google Business Profile, and Hootsuite and Sprout Social suit larger teams that need an inbox and governance.

Later built its name on visual Instagram planning, and it is still good at it: a feed preview, link in bio, a mobile app and scheduling for Reels, Stories and Snapchat. People start looking for a Later alternative when their work spreads beyond Instagram and TikTok. A Later Social Set covers Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat, so X and Bluesky are not part of it. Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month, AI runs on 5 to 100 credits a month, and Later's pricing and product pages list no API or MCP server. If you are only weighing the two products, our head-to-head page, Postprism vs Later, covers that in detail. This guide looks wider, ranking eight tools on cost at realistic team sizes, network coverage, post limits, AI writing and agent access, with every competitor price checked on the vendor's own page in October 2026.

Why Postprism is the Later alternative to pick

  • Every network in one workspace, X and Bluesky included. A Postprism workspace connects one account on each of LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest. One brand on all six networks is $19 a month on Solo. See multi-platform posting.
  • Unlimited posts on every plan. Solo is $19 a month, Freelancer $49 and Agency $99, and none of them counts posts. Later counts posts per profile on Starter (30 a month) and Growth (180 a month). See pricing.
  • A version for every network in one request. Write once, click Enhance with AI, and Postprism returns a separate, editable version for each network you selected, written with your saved brand identity. Plans include 150, 500 or 2,000 AI adaptations a month, against 5, 50 or 100 AI credits on Later. See AI content adaptation.
  • Your AI agent can run it via MCP, on every plan. Postprism's hosted MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients 11 tools to list accounts, upload media, draft, schedule, edit and report on posts. Freelancer and Agency add a REST API. See AI agents.

Key findings

  • Later prices by Social Set. Later's pricing page lists Starter at $18.75 a month, Growth at $37.50 and Scale at $82.50, all billed yearly, with 1, 2 and 6 Social Sets and 1, 2 and 4 users.
  • A Social Set is one profile on each of 8 networks: Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat. X and Bluesky are not on the list, and Later's scheduler page names YouTube Shorts.
  • Later caps posts on its two lower plans: 30 per profile a month on Starter and 180 on Growth. Scale is unlimited.
  • Starter cannot grow. Extra Social Sets ($11.25 a month), users ($3.75) and AI credits ($3.75 per 100) are only sold on Growth and Scale.
  • Agent access is now common among Later's rivals. Buffer, Planoly, Metricool and Hootsuite publish MCP servers, Iconosquare has one in beta, and Publer offers one to eligible Business customers. Later lists none.
  • Postprism stays at $19 for one brand on all 6 networks, and moves to $49 or $99 only when you add brands, client workspaces or team members.

What Later costs at realistic sizes, against Postprism and the rest

Later's Social Set model is cheap for one person with one brand, and grows in steps as you add brands and people. The table prices four common setups: one person posting one brand to 5 networks, two people with an approval step, three brands with three people, and ten brands with ten people. It uses the lowest plan on each vendor's page that covers the setup, at the price shown there. Later, Planoly, Metricool and Iconosquare figures are billed yearly, as their pages show them; Iconosquare prices in euros as displayed. All competitor prices were checked October 2026 and link to the vendor's pricing page.

Where Later is cheaper, plainly: for one person with one brand, Later Starter at $18.75 billed yearly and Planoly Starter at $14 cost about the same as or less than Postprism Solo's $19. The difference at that size is what you get: Postprism Solo has unlimited posts, X and Bluesky in the same workspace, full YouTube uploads and 150 AI adaptations a month, while Later Starter has 30 posts per profile and 5 AI credits. Once a second person or a second brand arrives, the maths moves. Three brands and three people cost $52.50 on Later Growth with add-ons against $49 on Postprism Freelancer, and ten brands with ten people cost $150 on Later Scale with add-ons against $99 on Postprism Agency. Metricool is the cheapest option for many small brands with approvals, at $53 for up to 15 brands, though X costs $10 a month per connected account on top.

Two suites do not fit the grid because they price per user. Hootsuite starts at $99 per user a month for Standard, $199 for Professional and up to $399 for Advanced, based on annual billing, and approvals are part of Advanced. Sprout Social starts at $79 per seat a month billed annually ($99 monthly) for Essentials with 5 profiles. Publer prices per social account, from $5 a month for 1 account on Professional and $10 on Business, with every 10th account or member free (all checked October 2026).

How we ranked these Later alternatives

Every tool was judged on the same five questions, using each vendor's own pricing and help pages in October 2026. We weighted the first two most heavily, because they are the most common reasons people outgrow Later.

CriterionWhat we checkedWhy it matters for Later users

What Later does well, and where it gets harder

Later's strengths are real, and they are why so many Instagram-first brands start there.

  • Visual planning. Later is built around previewing and arranging your Instagram feed before posts go live, and it schedules Instagram Reels, Stories, YouTube Shorts, Snapchat Spotlight and Snapchat Stories, per its pricing page.
  • Link in Bio and a mobile app on every plan. Starter includes Link in Bio with unlimited buttons, and Later's mobile app is available to manage channels on the go.
  • Best Time to Post from Starter. Starter includes Best Time to Post for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok; Growth adds multi-profile best times.
  • Collaboration and inbox from Growth. Growth adds content approvals with an external comment workflow, custom roles and a social inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
  • Long analytics history. Up to 3 months of platform analytics on Starter, 1 year on Growth and 2 years on Scale, with competitive benchmarking and Meta Ads analytics on Scale.

Where it gets harder is the shape of the plan once you post beyond Instagram. X and Bluesky sit outside the Social Set, Starter's 30 posts per profile a month runs out quickly for a brand posting daily, and AI credits are measured in single digits on Starter. Starter is also one user with no add-ons, so the first hire or the first client sign-off means moving to Growth.

1. Postprism: For anyone posting one brand to many networks at a flat price

Postprism is a social media scheduler that publishes to LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest from one calendar. The idea is simple: write once, publish natively on every platform, and let your AI agent run it via MCP if you want. Each post holds a separate, editable version for every network you pick, so your LinkedIn audience gets a LinkedIn post and your X audience gets an X post. For the direct comparison, read Postprism vs Later.

What it publishes on each network

LinkedInText, a single image or a video, to personal profiles and Company Pages
XPosts with up to 4 images
TikTokVideo and photo posts, published directly or sent to the inbox as a draft

Plans

Solo$19/month1 and 1150All 6 networks, unlimited posts, MCP server, Bulk Upload
Freelancer$49/month3 and 3500Approvals, REST API
Agency$99/month10 and 102,000Approvals, REST API, analytics CSV export

Each workspace connects one account per network, so one brand fits one workspace and more brands mean more workspaces. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

Why Later users pick it

  • Enhance with AI. One click returns a version of your post for every selected network, shaped to each one's length and style. Anything over a network's limit turns red so you can edit it.
  • Brand identity. The AI writes with your saved brand name, industry, tone, values, audience and key messages, so drafts sound like your brand from the first pass. See brand voice.
  • Calendar and kanban. Month, week and day views with a platform filter, a kanban board with Drafts, Scheduled and Published columns, and a Generate content plan button that builds a 4-week plan. See content calendar.
  • Bulk Upload on every plan. Upload a CSV with content, scheduled_at and an optional media_url, up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file. See bulk scheduling.
  • Agents. The hosted MCP server's 11 tools cover posts, media, analytics, platforms and workspaces, on every plan. Posts an agent creates without a date wait as drafts on your calendar.
  • Clients and approvals. Freelancer and Agency give each client a workspace, with Owner, Admin, Editor and read-only Viewer roles, and an approval step where Owners and Admins approve or request changes.
  • Analytics on every plan. Impressions, reach, clicks, engagement rate and top posts across 30, 60 or 90 days, with CSV export on Agency.

Choose Postprism if you post one brand across many networks, want X and Bluesky in the same calendar, want each network to get its own version without rewriting by hand, or want an AI agent to draft and schedule into a calendar you review. Start a 7-day free trial.

2. Planoly: For Instagram-first creators who sell through a link in bio

Planoly is the tool closest to Later in spirit: a visual, Instagram-first planner. Planoly's paid plan guide (checked October 2026) lists Starter at $16 a month billed monthly or $14 billed yearly, Growth at $28 or $24, and Professional at $55 or $47, with 1, 2 and 6 workspaces and users. Growth adds workspaces at $10 a month and users at $5; Professional at $8 and $3. Every paid plan includes unlimited posts and a 14-day free trial, and its pricing page describes a free plan in the mobile app with 10 uploads a month.

  • Selling: every plan includes a free link in bio, a store for digital products and merch, and Instagram DM automations.
  • Networks: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads and Pinterest publish directly. X is reminder-only: Planoly sends a notification at the scheduled time and you finish the post in the X app.
  • AI: every plan includes AI content ideas, keyword recommendations and caption suggestions.
  • Agents: the Planoly MCP works with Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Gemini CLI. It lists workspaces and channels, browses media, reads and edits drafts and scheduled posts, and pulls Instagram analytics. Drafting and scheduling do not need a paid plan; analytics and the media library do.

Choose Planoly if Instagram is your shop window and you want a link in bio store and DM automations at a lower entry price than Later. It does not list an approval step, and X stays manual. See our Planoly alternative page.

3. Buffer: For people on a few channels who want a free plan

Buffer's pricing page (checked October 2026) charges per channel: Essentials at $5 a month per channel ($60 per channel billed yearly) and Team at $10 ($120 billed yearly), with channels above 10 costing less each. The free plan covers up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and 1 user. Paid plans have a 14-day free trial.

  • Networks: Buffer's supported channels include Facebook Pages, Instagram, X, LinkedIn Pages and profiles, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profiles, Start Page, Mastodon, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Bluesky and Substack Notes.
  • Team: Team adds unlimited team members and content approval workflows; Essentials is one user.
  • AI and API: the AI Assistant is on every plan, and every plan includes API keys (1 on Free, 3 on Essentials, 5 on Team).
  • Agents: Buffer's Claude integration page describes a remote MCP server at mcp.buffer.com/mcp for drafting posts, reviewing the queue and scheduling from Claude. The page does not say which plans include it.

Choose Buffer if you post to two or three channels and the free plan covers you, or you want X and Bluesky without leaving a simple queue. Each extra channel adds $5 or $10 a month, so price your real channel count. See our Buffer alternative page, Later vs Buffer, or our full Buffer alternatives roundup.

4. Metricool: For analytics-led marketers with several small brands

Metricool's pricing page (checked October 2026) prices by brand, where a brand is all of one company's profiles.

PlanBilled yearlyBilled monthlyBrands
Free$0$01 brand, 20 scheduled posts a month, no LinkedIn or X

  • X: the Twitter/X add-on is $10 a month per connected account.
  • AI: the AI social media assistant has 5 credits per brand a month on Free, 20 on Starter and 35 on Advanced.
  • Teams and API: the post approval system and the Metricool API are on Advanced.
  • Agents: Metricool MCP is listed on the Free plan, so it is available on every tier.
  • Analytics: 30 days on Free and unlimited metric storage on paid plans, with competitor analysis.

Choose Metricool if reporting and competitor analysis are your main deliverable and you manage many small brands on one budget. If you post to X for each brand, add $10 a month per account. See our Metricool alternative page.

5. Iconosquare: For brands whose main job is reporting

Iconosquare's pricing page (checked October 2026) shows euro prices billed yearly:

  • Networks: Iconosquare's publishing page lists Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest, Threads and YouTube, with Reels, Stories and Shorts. X needs Launch or above.
  • Inbox and approvals: an inbox for comments, DMs and mentions from Launch; approval workflows and competitor tracking (5 per profile) on Scale.
  • Agents: the Iconosquare MCP is in beta. AI tools can analyse your data and create posts, which land as drafts that you finish in Iconosquare before they publish. API access is on Custom.

Choose Iconosquare if measuring and reporting come first, and you want benchmarks, competitor tracking and two years of history. See our Iconosquare alternative page.

6. Publer: For budget users who need extra networks

Publer's plans and pricing article (checked October 2026) lists Professional from $5 a month for 1 social account and 1 user and Business from $10 a month, with every 10th account or member free and 20% off when billed yearly. Professional has a 7-day free trial and Business a 14-day one.

  • Free plan: 1 user, 1 workspace, up to 3 social accounts (not X), 10 scheduled posts per account at a time and 25 saved drafts.
  • Networks: Publer's supported networks are Facebook (Pages, Groups and profiles), Instagram, X (paid plans only), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, YouTube, WordPress, TikTok, Telegram, Mastodon, Threads and Bluesky.
  • Business: unlimited AI Assist prompts and approval workflows.
  • Agents: the public API and MCP server are available to eligible Business customers and included on Enterprise.

Choose Publer if you need Google Business Profile, Telegram or WordPress alongside social, or a very low price for one or two accounts. Per-account pricing rises with every account you add. See our Publer alternative page.

7. Hootsuite: For larger teams that need an inbox and customer care

Hootsuite's FAQ and plans page (checked October 2026) list Standard from $99, Professional from $199 and Advanced up to $399, priced per user a month on annual billing, each with a 14-day free trial. Standard covers 10 social accounts; Professional and Advanced cover unlimited accounts.

  • Inbox: Standard replies to messages from one inbox, Professional automates inbox replies, and Advanced assigns and routes messages.
  • Approvals: reviewing and approving content with your team is part of Advanced.
  • Networks: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, WhatsApp and Pinterest.
  • Agents: Hootsuite's MCP page lists servers for its products, including one for drafting posts, scheduling and reviewing performance from ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot, for accounts with access to the relevant product.

Choose Hootsuite if customer care and a shared inbox matter as much as publishing and the budget is per seat. See our Hootsuite alternative page or Later vs Hootsuite.

8. Sprout Social: For enterprise social teams

Sprout Social's pricing page (checked October 2026) lists Essentials at $79 per seat a month billed annually ($99 billed monthly) with 5 social profiles, Standard at $199 per seat with 5 profiles, Professional at $299 with unlimited profiles and Advanced at $399 with unlimited profiles. The free trial runs 30 days.

  • AI: Trellis, Sprout's AI agent, comes with 100 AI agent credits per seat a month.
  • Listening: available as an add-on from Standard.
  • API: the Sprout API is on Advanced. The pricing page does not list an MCP server.

Choose Sprout Social if you are a larger company that needs governance, listening and reporting, and seat pricing fits the budget. A three-person team on Professional is $897 a month. See our Sprout Social alternative page.

How to choose a Later alternative

Start from where your audience is and who touches the work, not from a feature list. Five questions settle most decisions.

  1. Which networks earn results for you? If X, Bluesky or long-form YouTube matter, rule out tools that leave them out or make them manual. If Instagram is 90% of your results, a visual planner still makes sense.
  2. How many posts a month will you publish? Count posts per profile. A brand posting daily to five networks needs about 150 posts a month, which is past Later Starter's 30 per profile and Iconosquare Starter's 30 in total.
  3. Who else needs to see or approve posts? Approvals start on Later Growth, Postprism Freelancer, Buffer Team, Metricool Advanced, Iconosquare Scale and Hootsuite Advanced.
  4. Do you want each network to get its own post? If your LinkedIn, X and Instagram audiences want different things, a tool that writes a version per network in one step saves the most time. Our guide to whether cross-posting hurts reach explains why it matters.
  5. Will an AI agent do part of the work? Decide whether the agent drafts for review or schedules directly, then check where MCP sits on each tool's plans.

Why people switch from Later

X and Bluesky sit outside the plan

A Later Social Set is one profile on each of Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat. A founder who posts on X every day, or a brand building on Bluesky, needs a second tool for those posts. In Postprism, both are part of every workspace, alongside the other four networks.

Post limits arrive faster than expected

Starter's 30 posts per profile a month is one post a day. Add a second daily Story-style update, a launch week or an event, and you hit the cap. Growth raises it to 180, at twice the price. Every Postprism plan has unlimited posts.

AI credits run out

Later's AI runs on a monthly pool of 5 credits on Starter, 50 on Growth and 100 on Scale, where one credit makes one caption or three ideas, and extra credits cost $3.75 per 100 from Growth. Postprism's Enhance with AI writes a version for every selected network in one request, with 150, 500 or 2,000 adaptations a month by plan.

Full YouTube videos

Later lists YouTube Shorts. Creators who publish long-form video want title, tags, privacy, playlist and thumbnail set at upload, which Postprism handles as part of the same post.

Agents

Later's pricing and product pages list no API or MCP server, so an AI assistant cannot draft into your Later calendar. Postprism's MCP server is on every plan and keeps any post without a date as a draft for a person to review. Our guide to the best schedulers for AI agents compares this across the market.

A worked example: a skincare brand on six networks

Consider Fern and Clay, a fictional skincare brand. It posts to YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, X and Bluesky, about once a day on each, and a part-time assistant drafts posts that the founder approves.

  • Later Starter ($18.75 billed yearly): one user, no approvals, 30 posts per profile a month, and X and Bluesky handled somewhere else.
  • Later Growth ($37.50 billed yearly): two users and approvals, 180 posts per profile, but X and Bluesky are still outside the Social Set.
  • Postprism Freelancer ($49 a month): all six networks in one workspace, unlimited posts, 3 members, an approval step, and two spare workspaces for a sub-brand or a client.
  • Postprism Solo ($19 a month): if the founder writes everything alone, all six networks with unlimited posts.

The bigger change is the work. Instead of writing a TikTok caption and rewriting it for LinkedIn, X and Bluesky, the assistant writes once, clicks Enhance with AI and gets a version for each network, ready to edit and send for approval.

How to switch from Later to Postprism

A clean switch takes an afternoon for one brand. Keep two weeks queued in Later while you set up, so nothing goes quiet during the move.

  1. List what is scheduled. Open your Later calendar and copy the next four weeks of posts into a spreadsheet with three columns: content, scheduled_at and, where a post has an image, media_url.
  2. Start the trial and create workspaces. Sign up, then create one workspace per brand or client before connecting anything.
  3. Connect your networks. Connect LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest accounts in each workspace.
  4. Set up your brand identity. Add your industry, tone, values, audience and key messages so Enhance with AI writes in your voice.
  5. Bulk Upload the CSV. Save the spreadsheet as CSV (up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file, on every plan), choose the platforms for the upload and check the preview. For XLSX or JSON, or files in Google Drive or Dropbox, use the AI Scheduling Assistant instead.
  6. Add per-network versions. Open your most important posts and click Enhance with AI to give each network its own version, including X and Bluesky.
  7. Connect your agent. If you want Claude or ChatGPT to help, connect it to Postprism's MCP server and ask for one week of drafts to test.
  8. Pause, then cancel. Remove the overlapping posts from Later before your first Postprism post goes out, then cancel once a full week has published.

Our guide to bulk scheduling tools covers spreadsheet formats in more depth.

Common mistakes when leaving Later

  1. Comparing entry prices only. Price the plan you will need in 12 months, with every brand and person.
  2. Forgetting post limits. Count posts per profile, not per brand, when a tool caps them.
  3. Losing your bio link. If your Instagram bio points to a Later Link in Bio page, decide where it should point before you cancel.
  4. Running two queues. Remove overlapping posts from the old tool, or they go out twice.
  5. Sending one caption everywhere. A switch is the moment to give each network its own version.
  6. Letting an agent publish unreviewed. Have agents create drafts first, then review them on the calendar.

The verdict

Later is a good visual planner for brands whose world is Instagram and TikTok. Once you post to X or Bluesky, publish more than once a day per network, need a second person or want each network to get its own post, Postprism is the best Later alternative: $19 a month flat for one brand on 6 networks with unlimited posts, a native version of every post from one click of Enhance with AI, Bulk Upload and an MCP server for AI agents on every plan, and client workspaces with approvals from $49. Choose Planoly for an Instagram link in bio store, Buffer for a free plan on a few channels, Metricool or Iconosquare for analytics, Publer for extra networks on a budget, and Hootsuite or Sprout Social for enterprise inbox and listening. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Later alternative in 2026?

Postprism is the best Later alternative for most people in 2026. It publishes one brand to 6 networks, including X, Bluesky and full YouTube uploads, for $19 a month flat with unlimited posts, writes a version for every network in one Enhance with AI request, and includes an MCP server on every plan.

Does Later have an MCP server?

Later's pricing and scheduler pages, checked October 2026, do not list an MCP server or a public API. Postprism, Buffer, Planoly, Metricool and Hootsuite all publish MCP servers, Iconosquare has one in beta, and Publer offers one to eligible Business customers.

Can Later post to X (Twitter) or Bluesky?

Later's Social Set covers Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat, and neither X nor Bluesky is on that list. Postprism publishes to both, with up to 4 images on X, in the same workspace as the other four networks.

Is Planoly better than Later?

For Instagram sellers, Planoly is cheaper at the entry level ($14 a month billed yearly against Later's $18.75) and adds a link in bio store and DM automations, with unlimited posts on paid plans. Later has approvals from Growth, a social inbox and longer analytics history. Planoly posts to X as reminders only.

Does Planoly have an MCP server?

Yes. The Planoly MCP works with Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Gemini CLI to read workspaces, browse media, edit drafts and scheduled posts and pull Instagram analytics. Drafting and scheduling do not need a paid plan; X posts are scheduled as reminders.

Does Metricool have an MCP server?

Yes. Metricool's pricing page lists Metricool MCP on its Free plan, so every tier has it. The Metricool API is on Advanced.

Does Buffer have an MCP server?

Yes. Buffer's Claude integration page describes a remote MCP server at mcp.buffer.com/mcp for drafting posts, reviewing the queue and scheduling. The page does not state which plans include it.

Is there a free Later alternative?

Several. Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels, Metricool's covers 1 brand with 20 posts a month (no LinkedIn or X), Iconosquare's covers 2 profiles, Publer's covers 3 accounts (not X), and Planoly has a free plan in its mobile app with 10 uploads a month. Postprism has a 7-day free trial on every plan.

Is Postprism cheaper than Later?

For one person with one brand the prices are close: Later Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly and Postprism Solo is $19, but Solo has unlimited posts, X and Bluesky, and 150 AI adaptations a month. With more people and brands Postprism is cheaper: three brands and three people cost $52.50 on Later Growth with add-ons against $49 on Freelancer, and ten of each cost $150 on Later Scale with add-ons against $99 on Agency.

Can I move my Later posts to Postprism?

Yes. Put your upcoming posts in a spreadsheet with content, scheduled_at and optional media_url columns, save it as CSV and use Bulk Upload, which takes up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file on every plan.
