Social Media Scheduling Tools Pricing Compared (2026): What 12 Tools Really Cost

The best-value social media scheduler at realistic scale in 2026 is usually one with flat pricing, and Postprism is the strongest example. It costs $19 a month for one brand, $49 for 3 client workspaces with approvals and $99 for 10 workspaces with up to 10 team members, with all 6 networks and unlimited posts on every plan. Per-channel, per-seat and per-workspace tools look cheaper on the pricing page but grow with every account, teammate or client you add.

Scheduler pricing pages are designed to show the smallest number. What you actually pay depends on how many social accounts you connect, how many people log in, how many posts you publish and which features sit behind higher tiers. This guide explains the five pricing models, lists current prices for 12 tools taken from each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026, and runs the numbers for three common setups so you can see the real monthly bill before you commit.

Key findings

What's changed in 2026 for scheduler pricing

AI credits became a pricing lever

Most suites now meter AI. Sprout Social includes 100 AI credits per seat a month; Later includes 5, 50 or 100 AI credits a month by plan and sells 100 more for $3.75. Postprism includes 150, 500 or 2,000 AI adaptations a month by plan, and AI stays optional: scheduling and publishing are not metered at all. When comparing, check whether the AI you will actually use is included or an add-on.

API and agent access moved down-market

Buffer includes API access on every plan, with request limits from 3,000 to 15,000 per 30 days, and announced MCP support for Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity in June 2026. Postprism's MCP server is on every plan and its REST API on Freelancer and Agency. If you plan to let an assistant draft into your scheduler, check which plan unlocks it.

Approvals stayed plan-gated

Approvals remain one of the main reasons teams upgrade. Later adds them on Growth, Metricool on Advanced, Buffer on Team, Hootsuite on Advanced and Planable makes them required only from Pro. Price the plan that includes approvals, not the entry plan, if more than one person touches your posts.

Consistency is what you are buying

Buffer's 2026 analysis found accounts that skipped a week consistently underperformed their own baseline growth. A scheduler's value is not the features on its pricing page; it is the weeks it keeps you posting. Price accordingly: the cheapest tool you stop using is the most expensive one.

Ask one question of every pricing page: "What happens to my bill when I add one more network, one more teammate and one more client?" The answer matters more than the starting price.

How each pricing model behaves as you grow

Flat tiers

You pay one price for a bundle of limits: brands or workspaces, team members and sometimes profiles. The bill is predictable and does not move when you add a post, a channel or a reviewer inside the tier. It jumps only when you cross a tier boundary. Flat pricing suits anyone whose growth is in volume or channels rather than in headcount. Postprism's tiers are built around workspaces (1, 3 and 10) and team members (up to 10 on Agency).

Per channel

You pay for each connected account. It is the fairest model for one person with three channels and the most expensive for an agency with forty. The trap is that "channel" means account, not network: a client with an Instagram account, a Facebook Page, a LinkedIn Company Page and a founder's LinkedIn profile is four channels.

Per seat

You pay for each person who logs in. The model assumes a small team managing many accounts, which is how large in-house social teams work. It penalises collaboration: every reviewer, client or part-time contributor costs a full seat, which pushes teams to share logins or skip reviews.

Per workspace or brand

You pay per brand or client. Planable prices per workspace with unlimited users; Metricool prices by the number of brands. This is predictable for agencies with a stable client list, and it scales linearly with client count.

Post-capped tiers

The price looks low because volume is capped. A cap of 30 posts per profile a month is about one post a day; it is fine for a solo creator and tight for a brand posting twice a day or running campaigns. Always multiply your planned posts per week by your profiles and by 4.3 before relying on a capped plan.

Current prices for 12 scheduling tools

All prices below come from each vendor's pricing page as viewed in October 2026, in US dollars unless noted. Where a page lists only annual pricing, we say so. Prices change often; confirm before you buy.

Tool-by-tool pricing notes

The table gives the headline numbers. These notes explain what each price really buys and where the bill grows.

Postprism

Three flat plans. Solo ($19) is one brand with all 6 networks, unlimited posts, 150 AI adaptations a month and analytics over 30, 60 or 90 days. Freelancer ($49) adds 3 client workspaces, 3 team members, approvals and the REST API. Agency ($99) adds 10 workspaces, up to 10 team members and analytics CSV export. Bulk scheduling and the MCP server are on every plan; the REST API is on Freelancer and Agency. The bill only changes when you move up a plan. See the bulk scheduling and team collaboration features.

Buffer

Per channel, so the bill tracks your account count exactly. Essentials ($5 a channel) is for one user; Team ($10 a channel) adds unlimited users and approvals. Channels above 10 are discounted, though the page does not say by how much. Cheap for a few channels, expensive for an agency. See our Buffer alternative page.

Hootsuite

Per user, with starting prices of $99 (Standard, 10 social accounts), $199 (Professional, unlimited accounts) and up to $399 (Advanced), according to the FAQ on its plans page. The page notes that displayed prices are based on annual billing. Approvals arrive on Advanced, the trial lasts 14 days, and bulk scheduling is not available during the trial. See our Hootsuite alternative page.

Sprout Social

Per seat. Essentials is $99 monthly or $79 annually for 5 profiles; Standard, Professional and Advanced are $199, $299 and $399 per seat a month, with unlimited profiles from Professional and 100 AI credits per seat. Every additional user pays the full seat price, and the free trial runs for 30 days. See our Sprout Social alternative page.

Later

Tiered with post caps: Starter ($18.75 billed yearly) has 1 social set of 8 profiles, 1 user and 30 posts per profile; Growth ($37.50) has 2 sets, 2 users, 180 posts and approvals; Scale ($82.50) has 6 sets, 4 users and unlimited posts. Add-ons on Growth and Scale: $11.25 per extra set, $3.75 per extra user. See our Later alternative page.

Planable

Per workspace with unlimited users: Basic $33 (4 pages, 60 posts), Pro $49 (10 pages, 150 posts, required approvals), Enterprise custom (50 pages, multi-level approvals). Great for client-heavy review; costly as client count grows. See our Planable alternative page.

Agorapulse

Per user: Standard $99 ($79 annually), Professional $149 ($119), Advanced $199 ($149), each with 10 social profiles and extra profiles charged. Simple approval workflows start on Professional; CSV bulk scheduling of up to 200 posts starts on Advanced; multi-step approvals are on the custom plan. Every plan includes the social inbox, and the trial lasts 30 days. See our Agorapulse alternative page.

Loomly

Two main plans: Starter at $65 a month ($49 annually) with 12 accounts and 3 users, and Beyond at $332 ($249 annually) with 60 accounts and unlimited users. Approvals on both. The jump between them is steep. See our Loomly alternative page.

SocialBee

Flat tiers by profiles and workspaces, from Bootstrap ($29, 5 profiles) through Accelerate ($49, 10 profiles, approvals, CSV import) and Pro ($99, 25 profiles, 5 workspaces) to Pro150 ($449). Users are counted per workspace. Prices exclude VAT.

Metricool

Priced by number of brands, with a free plan for one brand (20 posts a month, no LinkedIn or X). Starter runs from $25 a month for 5 brands; Advanced from $67 for 15 brands, with approvals. Strong value for many small brands. See our Metricool alternative page.

Vista Social

Flat plans by profiles: Professional $99 (15 profiles), Advanced $199 (30 profiles, multi-stage approvals), Scale $449 (70 profiles). User counts are small and listed inconsistently between the plan table and FAQ.

CoSchedule

Starter $39 a month ($29 annually) with 1 seat and 3 profiles; Professional $59 ($49 annually) with 2 seats, 5 profiles and approvals. Extra profiles $5, extra seats $29, and X profiles billed separately at $16 each.

Which plan unlocks the features teams actually need

Entry prices are misleading because the features that make a scheduler useful for a team usually sit one or two tiers up. This table shows the cheapest plan that includes approvals and bulk scheduling on each tool, taken from the same pricing pages. If you need either feature, this is the plan to price, not the entry plan.

ToolCheapest plan with approvalsCheapest plan with bulk or CSV schedulingPrice of that plan (monthly list)
PostprismFreelancer (also on Agency)Every plan, from Solo$49, or $19 if you only need bulk scheduling
BufferTeamCheck their pricing page$10 per channel
HootsuiteAdvancedProfessional lists bulk scheduling; not in trialsUp to $399 per user
LaterGrowthCheck their pricing page$37.50 billed yearly
AgorapulseProfessional (simple); custom plan for multi-stepAdvanced, up to 200 posts per CSV$149 or $199 per user
MetricoolAdvancedCheck their pricing pageFrom $67 for 15 brands
SocialBeeAccelerateAccelerate$49
PlanableBasic (optional), Pro (required), Enterprise (multi-level)Check their pricing page$33 or $49 per workspace
LoomlyStarterCheck their pricing page$65
CoScheduleProfessionalCheck their pricing page$59

Two patterns stand out. First, the per-seat suites put approvals high up their ladders: Hootsuite on Advanced and Agorapulse's multi-step approvals only on a custom plan. Second, several mid-priced tools put approvals on the second tier, which is where most small teams should start their comparison. Postprism's approval workflow starts on Freelancer at $49, and bulk scheduling from a CSV, XLSX or JSON file is on every plan.

Free trials compared

A trial is the cheapest way to test what a pricing page cannot tell you: whether your team will actually use the tool every week. Trial terms vary more than most people expect.

ToolTrial lengthNotable trial terms
Postprism7 daysEvery plan; not charged if you cancel before it ends
Hootsuite14 daysNo bulk scheduling during the trial; daily posting limits of 10 to 20 posts per organisation
Later14 daysOn all three plans
Vista Social14 daysNo credit card required
Sprout Social30 daysNo credit card required
Agorapulse30 daysNo credit card required; a free plan afterwards
MeetEdgar30 daysOn every plan
PlanableNo time limit50 posts in total; no X publishing during the trial

Plan your trial around a real week of work, not a tour of the menus. Import a week of posts, connect every network you use, run one approval round and pull one report. If the trial is short, prepare the content before you start it.

What three real setups pay

The only honest way to compare is to price your own setup. Here are three common ones, using monthly list prices (annual where the vendor lists only annual) and the cheapest plan that covers each setup's needs.

Setup 1: solo creator, 1 person, 5 channels

LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest; about 60 posts a month; no approvals needed.

Tool and planMonthly costNotes
Postprism Solo$19 ($14 annually)All 6 networks, unlimited posts
Later Starter$18.75 (billed yearly)30 posts per profile cap
Buffer Essentials$255 channels at $5
SocialBee Bootstrap$29 ($24 annually)5 profiles
Metricool Starter$25 ($20 annually)Up to 5 brands
Planable Pro$49Basic allows only 4 pages per workspace
CoSchedule StarterFrom $29 on annual billing, plus extras3 profiles included, extra profiles $5 each; X profiles are billed separately
Loomly Starter$65 ($49 annually)12 accounts
Agorapulse Standard$99 ($79 annually)1 user
Sprout Social Essentials$99 ($79 annually)5 profiles
Hootsuite StandardFrom $99 (annual)1 user, 10 accounts

Verdict for solo users. Postprism, Later, Buffer, Metricool and SocialBee all land between $19 and $29. The differences are in the limits: Later caps posts per profile, Metricool and SocialBee cap brands or profiles, and Buffer's bill grows with every channel. Postprism's price stays the same whether you connect five networks or all six, with unlimited posts. See Postprism for solo founders.

Setup 2: freelancer, 2 people, 3 clients, 12 channels, approvals

Four channels per client, a client sign-off step, and an assistant who drafts.

Tool and planMonthly costNotes
Postprism Freelancer$49 ($36 annually)3 workspaces, 3 team members, approvals
Later Growth$37.50 (billed yearly)2 social sets, 2 users, approvals; 180 posts per profile
Loomly Starter$65 ($49 annually)12 accounts, 3 users, approvals
SocialBee Pro$99 ($82 annually)5 workspaces, 3 users per workspace
Vista Social Professional$9915 profiles, single-stage approvals
Buffer TeamUp to $12012 channels at $10; channels above 10 discounted
Planable Pro$1473 workspaces at $49
Agorapulse Professional$298 ($238 annually), plus extra profiles2 users; simple approvals from Professional
Hootsuite AdvancedUp to $7982 users; approvals on Advanced
Sprout Social Professional$5982 seats; 12 profiles exceeds Standard's 5

Verdict for freelancers. Postprism, Later and Loomly are in the same range. Postprism gives each client a separate workspace, publishes to all 6 networks and has no post caps; Later is cheaper on paper but caps posts per profile and counts your second user tightly. Per-seat suites cost six to sixteen times as much for the same job. See Postprism for freelancers.

Setup 3: agency, 5 staff, 10 clients, 40 channels, approvals

Tool and planMonthly costNotes
Postprism Agency$99 ($75 annually)10 workspaces, up to 10 team members, approvals
Metricool Advanced$67 ($53 annually)Up to 15 brands, approvals; check user limits
Later ScaleAbout $86 (billed yearly)6 social sets (48 profiles), 4 users plus 1 extra at $3.75
SocialBee Pro50$179 ($149 annually)50 profiles, 10 workspaces
Loomly Beyond$332 ($249 annually)60 accounts, unlimited users
Buffer TeamUp to $40040 channels; volume discount above 10 not published
Vista Social Scale$44970 profiles, 4 users
Planable Pro$49010 workspaces at $49
Agorapulse Professional$745 ($595 annually), plus extra profiles5 users; 10 profiles included, so 30 extra
Sprout Social Professional$1,4955 seats
Hootsuite AdvancedUp to $1,9955 users

Verdict for agencies. Flat and brand-based tools win by a wide margin. Postprism covers 10 clients, 10 people and 6 networks with unlimited posts for $99, which is why we built the Agency plan that way. See Postprism for agencies and our ranking of the best social media tools for agencies.

Setup 4: in-house team, 1 brand, 3 people, 6 channels

A common in-house setup: one company, a social lead plus two contributors, LinkedIn Company Page and founders' profiles, X, YouTube, TikTok and Pinterest, with the lead approving.

Tool and planMonthly costNotes
Postprism Freelancer$49 ($36 annually)3 team members, approvals, unlimited posts
Planable Pro$491 workspace, unlimited users; 150 posts a month
Buffer Team$606 channels at $10
Loomly Starter$65 ($49 annually)3 users, approvals
Agorapulse Professional$447 ($357 annually)3 users, simple approvals
Sprout Social Professional$8973 seats; Standard includes only 5 profiles, so 6 channels needs Professional

For a single brand, Postprism, Planable, Buffer and Loomly are close on price. The deciding factors are post volume (Planable's 150 a month), network coverage and whether you also want analytics exports and AI help in the same tool.

A 12-month projection: a growing freelancer

Prices only matter in motion. Here is what happens to a freelancer who starts the year with 3 clients and 2 people and ends it with 6 clients, 24 channels and 3 people, all needing approvals.

ToolJanuary (3 clients, 12 channels, 2 people)December (6 clients, 24 channels, 3 people)Change
Postprism$49 (Freelancer)$99 (Agency)One plan change
Buffer TeamUp to $120Up to $240Grows with every channel
Planable Pro$147$294Grows with every client
Agorapulse Professional$298 plus extra profiles$447 plus extra profilesGrows with every person and profile
Sprout Social Professional$598$897Grows with every person

The flat-priced tool changes once, at a moment you choose. The others change every time the business grows, which is exactly when margins are tightest. When you compare tools, run this projection with your own expected growth.

Worked example: pricing a real switch

Here is how one fictional business, Harbour and Hearth, a two-person interior design studio, worked through the decision. They post to Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and X for their own brand and plan to take on two retail clients next year, each with Pinterest, TikTok and LinkedIn.

  1. Today's needs. 1 brand, 5 channels, 2 people, about 50 posts a month, no approvals yet. Postprism Solo at $19 covers the brand, but the second person needs a team seat, so they price Freelancer at $49 ($36 annually), which adds approvals and 3 workspaces they will need anyway.
  2. Next year's needs. 3 brands, 11 channels, 2 people, client approvals. Freelancer still fits: 3 workspaces, 3 team members and unlimited posts. The bill does not change.
  3. The comparison. On Buffer Team, 11 channels would be up to $110 a month. On Agorapulse Professional, two users would be $298 a month with 10 profiles included and one extra. On Later Growth, two social sets cover two brands, so the third brand needs an extra set at $11.25.
  4. The decision. They chose the plan whose price would not move when the clients arrived, and spent the trial importing a month of Pins and posts from a spreadsheet to check the workflow.

The lesson is not that one tool is always cheapest. It is that pricing your next twelve months, not your first one, often changes the answer.

Cost per post: a different lens

Another way to compare is to divide the monthly bill by the posts it publishes. Take the 10-client agency from setup 3, posting four times a week to four channels per client, which is about 690 posts a month.

ToolMonthly costApproximate cost per post
Postprism Agency$99About $0.14
Loomly Beyond$332About $0.48
Planable Pro (10 workspaces)$490About $0.71, if each workspace stays under 150 posts
Agorapulse Professional (5 users)$745 plus profilesAbout $1.08 or more
Sprout Social Professional (5 seats)$1,495About $2.17

Cost per post is not the whole story, since suites include inboxes and listening. But if publishing is the main job, it shows clearly how much of a suite's price pays for features outside it.

When it is worth paying more

Cheaper is not always better. Per-seat suites earn their price in specific situations:

  • High-volume customer care. If your team answers hundreds of messages a day, a shared inbox with assignment, saved replies and sentiment (Sprout Social Advanced, Hootsuite Advanced, Agorapulse) saves more than it costs.
  • Social listening. Tracking brand mentions and competitors across the web is an enterprise feature with an enterprise price.
  • Procurement and compliance. Large organisations often need SSO, contracts, security reviews and audit trails that only enterprise plans include.
  • CRM integration. Hootsuite lists Salesforce integration on Enterprise; if social leads must flow into a CRM automatically, that matters.

If none of these apply, the extra money buys features you will not open. Most small teams are better served by a focused scheduler plus a free analytics export.

How to save on a scheduler

  1. Trial before you commit. Postprism's 7-day trial costs nothing if you cancel before it ends.
  2. Switch to annual after month one. Postprism's annual plans cost $14, $36 and $75 a month.
  3. Disconnect dead accounts. On per-channel and per-profile plans, every old account costs money.
  4. Use viewer access for stakeholders. Postprism's Viewer role lets people see the calendar without a separate tool.
  5. Consolidate tools. A calendar that also publishes replaces a planning board plus native apps.
  6. Use free tools around it. Our free character counter and image resizer cover jobs some suites charge for.

Choosing by budget

Under $25 a month

Postprism Solo, Later Starter, Buffer Essentials for up to 4 channels, Metricool Starter and SocialBee Bootstrap (annual) all fit. Choose on limits: network coverage, post caps and whether you will need approvals in six months.

$25 to $100 a month

The sweet spot for freelancers and small teams. Postprism Freelancer or Agency, Later Growth or Scale, Loomly Starter, SocialBee Accelerate or Pro and Vista Social Professional live here. This is where approvals and multiple workspaces become affordable.

$100 to $500 a month

Planable for several workspaces, Loomly Beyond, Vista Social Scale, Buffer for many channels and single-seat enterprise suites. Make sure you need what the extra money buys, usually an inbox, listening or advanced reporting.

Over $500 a month

Multi-seat Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Agorapulse. Worth it for enterprises that need social listening, a large shared inbox, CRM integrations and procurement-friendly contracts. Overkill if your main job is publishing.

How to calculate your real scheduler cost

  1. Count your channels. Every account on every network, for every brand or client, including personal profiles you post to.
  2. Count your people. Everyone who needs to log in, including reviewers and clients.
  3. Estimate posts per month. Posts per week times profiles times 4.3. Compare with any post caps.
  4. List must-have features. Approvals, bulk import, analytics history, API or MCP access, specific networks such as Pinterest or YouTube.
  5. Find the cheapest plan with all of them on each shortlisted tool, not the entry plan.
  6. Add the extras. Extra profiles, users, network surcharges and AI credits.
  7. Compare monthly and annual. Annual billing typically saves 15% to 25%, but only commit after a trial month.
  8. Re-run the numbers for next year. Add the clients, channels and people you expect. The tool that is cheapest today is often not the cheapest at your next size.

Our social media management cost guide puts these tool costs alongside freelancer, agency and in-house staff costs.

Free plans compared

Free plans are a good way to start, but each has a catch.

ToolWhat is freeThe catch
BufferUp to 3 channels10 scheduled posts per channel; no approvals
Metricool1 brand20 posts a month; no LinkedIn or X

Common pricing mistakes (and how to fix them)

  1. Comparing entry prices. Entry plans often lack approvals, bulk import or enough profiles. Fix: price the plan you will actually need.
  2. Forgetting reviewers. Per-seat tools charge for every login. Fix: count clients and approvers.
  3. Ignoring post caps. Fix: multiply weekly posts by profiles and compare with each tier's limit.
  4. Missing network surcharges. Fix: read the comparison table for networks billed separately.
  5. Paying for unused suite features. Fix: list what you will use weekly; ignore the rest.
  6. Committing annually too early. Fix: one month (or a trial) first, then switch to annual.
  7. Pricing for today only. Fix: re-run the numbers with next year's clients and channels.
  8. Running two tools for one job. A planning board plus a scheduler plus native apps adds up. Fix: one calendar that publishes.
  9. Ignoring the cost of switching. Fix: check exports and bulk import so you can move later.
  10. Choosing on price alone. A cheap tool missing a network means manual posting. Fix: confirm every network you use is supported.
  11. Not counting your time. Fix: value the hours a tool saves each week; it usually dwarfs the subscription.

The verdict

For most solo creators, freelancers and agencies, flat pricing is the best value in 2026, and Postprism offers the most for it: all 6 networks, unlimited posts, approvals from $49 and 10 client workspaces with up to 10 team members for $99. Later and Metricool are strong budget alternatives if their post caps and brand limits fit, Buffer is simple for a few channels, and per-seat suites like Sprout Social and Hootsuite earn their price only when you need their inbox and listening. For the wider comparison, see our ranking of the best social media scheduling tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a social media scheduling tool cost?

From free plans with tight limits to several hundred dollars per user a month. Most solo users pay $15 to $30 a month, freelancers $35 to $150 and agencies $100 to $1,000 or more, depending on the pricing model.

What is the cheapest social media scheduler?

For one person, several tools cost about $19 to $25 a month, including Postprism, Later and Buffer for a few channels. At agency scale, flat-priced tools like Postprism ($99 for 10 workspaces) are far cheaper than per-seat suites.

How much does Postprism cost?

Solo is $19 a month, Freelancer $49 and Agency $99, or $14, $36 and $75 billed annually. Every plan includes all 6 networks and unlimited posts, and starts with a 7-day free trial.

Is per-channel or per-user pricing better?

Per-channel suits one person with a few accounts. Per-user suits a small team with few accounts. Flat pricing usually wins once you have several clients, several people or many channels.

Why is Sprout Social so expensive?

Sprout Social is priced per seat at $199 to $399 a month for its Standard, Professional and Advanced plans, because it bundles an inbox, listening and advanced reporting. If you mainly need scheduling, you pay for features you will not use.

Do scheduling tools charge per post?

Some cap posts by plan rather than charging per post: Later Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month and Planable Basic 60 per workspace. Postprism has unlimited posts on every plan.

Is annual billing worth it?

Usually, once you are sure. Postprism and Later save 25% annually and Sendible 15%. Use a trial or one monthly cycle first.

What hidden costs should I watch for?

Extra profiles, extra users, networks billed separately, AI credits, and features such as approvals or bulk import that only unlock on higher plans.
