Connect Cursor to social media

Can Cursor post to social media? Yes. Add the Postprism MCP server to Cursor’s mcp.json and the Cursor agent can draft, schedule and check posts for 6 social networks. It is the quickest way to turn a release you just finished into launch posts without switching apps.

How to connect Cursor to Postprism

What you need

  • Cursor with Agent mode
  • Node.js 18 or later (the config runs the connector with npx)
  • A Postprism account with at least one social account connected
  1. 01

    Open MCP settings

    In Cursor, open Settings > MCP and choose Add new global MCP server. This opens ~/.cursor/mcp.json. For one project only, create .cursor/mcp.json in the repo instead.

  2. 02

    Add the Postprism server and save

    Paste the postprism entry under mcpServers.

    mcp.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "postprism": {
          "command": "npx",
          "args": [
            "[email protected]",
            "https://studio.postprism.app/api/mcp"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  3. 03

    Sign in

    Cursor starts the server and a browser tab opens to sign in to Postprism. Approve access; the server shows a green dot in Settings > MCP.

  4. 04

    Try it in Agent mode

    Open the agent and ask “list my Postprism platforms”. Cursor asks to run list_platforms; approve it.

What it looks like

You ask

Look at the diff on this branch and draft an X post and a LinkedIn post announcing the new export feature. Save as drafts for Thursday 4 PM.

What happens

The agent reads the diff, writes both posts in plain language (no code jargon), and calls create_post. The draft appears on Thursday in your Postprism calendar.

In the walkthrough, the marketer writes one post herself, then asks Claude to plan the follow-ups. They land on the same calendar.

Prompt library

Copy these and change the details for your brand.

Ship notes

Draft a short “we shipped” post for X and Bluesky from the last three commits. Drafts only.

Docs promotion

Turn the new README section into a LinkedIn post that explains who the feature is for.

Check queue

What is scheduled in Postprism for the next seven days?

Working well with Cursor

Add a rule

Put your social tone in a Cursor rule (.cursor/rules) so the agent writes posts the same way every time.

Keep approvals on

Leave tool approval on for Postprism, so you see every create_post call before it runs.

Limits to know

  • The agent works inside your Postprism workspace. It can only post to social accounts you have already connected in Postprism; connecting a new account always happens in Postprism, through each network’s own sign-in.
  • Each network’s own rules still apply: Pinterest Pins need an image, TikTok and YouTube need a video, X posts are capped at 280 characters, and Bluesky at 300.
  • Media has to be uploaded with upload_media first (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, MP4 or MOV, up to 10 MB per file). Links to files hosted elsewhere are rejected.
  • A post created without a date is saved as a draft. A post created with scheduled_at is scheduled and publishes automatically, so ask for drafts if you want to review first.
  • The MCP server allows 200 requests per hour per user, which is plenty for planning a month of posts but not for bulk-migrating thousands.
