Connect Gemini to social media

Can Gemini post to social media? Yes, through Gemini CLI. Add Postprism as an MCP server in Gemini CLI’s settings and Gemini can draft, schedule and analyse posts for X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest. The Gemini web app does not support custom MCP servers.

How to connect Gemini CLI to Postprism

What you need

  • Gemini CLI installed and signed in
  • Node.js 18 or later
  • A Postprism account with at least one social account connected
  1. 01

    Open Gemini CLI settings

    Edit ~/.gemini/settings.json (for every project) or .gemini/settings.json in a project folder.

  2. 02

    Add the Postprism server and save

    Add the postprism entry under mcpServers.

    settings.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "postprism": {
          "command": "npx",
          "args": [
            "[email protected]",
            "https://studio.postprism.app/api/mcp"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  3. 03

    Restart and sign in

    Start Gemini CLI. A browser tab opens to sign in to Postprism; approve access. Run /mcp to confirm the Postprism tools are listed.

    Gemini CLI
    /mcp

What it looks like

You ask

Draft a LinkedIn post and a Bluesky post about our Saturday cupping event, saved as drafts for Wednesday at noon.

What happens

Gemini calls create_post with both versions and no publish date, and the draft appears on Wednesday on your Postprism calendar.

In the walkthrough, the marketer writes one post herself, then asks Claude to plan the follow-ups. They land on the same calendar.

Plan

Working well with Gemini CLI

Use GEMINI.md

Add your brand voice and posting rules to GEMINI.md so Gemini follows them in every session.

Limits to know

  • The agent works inside your Postprism workspace. It can only post to social accounts you have already connected in Postprism; connecting a new account always happens in Postprism, through each network’s own sign-in.
  • Each network’s own rules still apply: Pinterest Pins need an image, TikTok and YouTube need a video, X posts are capped at 280 characters, and Bluesky at 300.
  • Media has to be uploaded with upload_media first (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, MP4 or MOV, up to 10 MB per file). Links to files hosted elsewhere are rejected.
  • A post created without a date is saved as a draft. A post created with scheduled_at is scheduled and publishes automatically, so ask for drafts if you want to review first.
  • The MCP server allows 200 requests per hour per user, which is plenty for planning a month of posts but not for bulk-migrating thousands.
