Publer vs Buffer in 2026: Pricing, AI and Features Compared

Publer vs Buffer: which is better in 2026? Publer vs Buffer, in short: choose Publer if you want the lower price per account, the widest network list (including Google Business Profile, Telegram and WordPress) and Business-plan extras like post recycling, recurring posts and best times to post; choose Buffer if you want a simple queue, a community inbox on every plan, a free plan that includes X, and unlimited users on the Team plan. At 9 accounts, Publer Professional costs $36 a month and Buffer Essentials $45; with approvals, Publer Business costs $63 plus $3 per extra member and Buffer Team $90 with unlimited users (checked October 2026). If you post one brand to many networks and want one flat price, Postprism is the third option worth pricing: $19 a month for one brand on all 6 of its networks.

Publer and Buffer are two of the most popular schedulers for small teams, and they look alike from a distance. Both have a free plan, both charge for each social account you connect, both have an AI writing assistant, and both now offer an MCP server so AI agents like Claude can work with your schedule. The differences show up in the details: how the bill grows as you add accounts and people, which features sit behind the higher plan, and which networks and formats each one publishes. This comparison goes through each of those, with every price and limit taken from the vendor’s own pricing and help pages in October 2026 and listed in the Sources section at the end.

Pricing compared (checked October 2026)

Both tools charge by the account, so the real question is what each costs at the number of accounts and people you actually have. The two models differ in one important way: Publer charges for each extra team member on top of each account, while Buffer’s Team plan includes unlimited users and charges only per channel.

Publer pricing

Publer’s plans page uses a calculator rather than fixed plan prices. Its plans and pricing help article confirms the starting points: Professional from $5 a month and Business from $10 a month for one social account, one user and no additional members, with Enterprise quoted. In the calculator on publer.com/plans (checked October 2026, monthly billing):

  • Professional: $5 for one account, $4.50 each for two, then $4 per account, plus $2 per additional member.
  • Business: $10 for one account, $8.50 each for two, then $7 per account, plus $3 per additional member.
  • Every 10th account or member is free. The account owner does not count as an additional member.
  • Yearly billing is cheaper. The help article puts the saving at 20% compared with monthly billing.

The free plan covers 1 user, 1 workspace and up to 3 social accounts, excluding X, with 10 scheduled posts at a time per account, 25 saved drafts and 24 hours of published post history. Professional adds X, unlimited scheduling and drafts, unlimited workspaces, bulk scheduling and team members. Business adds unlimited AI Assist prompts, analytics and reports, best times to post, competitor analysis, hashtag analytics, post recycling, recurring posts and approval workflows.

Buffer pricing

Buffer’s pricing page (checked October 2026) lists three plans:

  • Free: up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 1 user, 30 days of analytics history, the AI Assistant and the community inbox.
  • Essentials: $5 a month per channel ($60 a year per channel), 1 user, unlimited scheduled posts, unlimited analytics history and reports, first comment scheduling and a hashtag manager.
  • Team: $10 a month per channel ($120 a year per channel), unlimited users, approval workflows, custom access and permissions, and branded reports.

Channels above 10 cost less per channel, though the page does not list the discounted rate, so the figures below for 15 and 20 channels are upper limits. Both paid plans come with a 14-day free trial, and nonprofits get 50% off.

What each costs at real account counts

The table shows the monthly list price for one person (no additional members) at each account count, calculated from each vendor’s page in October 2026. An account here means one connected profile, Page or channel.

AccountsPubler ProfessionalBuffer EssentialsPubler BusinessBuffer Team
1$5$5$10$10
3$12$15$21$30
5$20$25$35$50
9$36$45$63$90
10$36 (10th free)$50$63 (10th free)$100
15$56At most $75$98At most $150
20$72At most $100$126At most $200

For one person, Publer is cheaper than Buffer at every size above one account, on both tiers. The gap narrows for teams, because Publer adds $2 or $3 for each additional member while Buffer Team has no user charge. A few worked examples, all monthly list prices:

  • One brand, 5 accounts, 3 people who need approvals: Publer Business is $35 plus 2 members at $3, so $41. Buffer Team is $50 with unlimited users.
  • One brand, 10 accounts, 10 people: Publer Business is $63 plus 9 additional members at $3, so $90. Buffer Team is $100.
  • Three brands on 5 accounts each, 3 people with approvals: Publer Business is $98 for 15 accounts plus $6 for 2 members, so $104. Buffer Team is at most $150 for 15 channels.

Publer stays cheaper in these cases, but the difference shrinks as the team grows, and large teams with few channels can find Buffer Team the better deal. If price is the deciding factor, put your own account and member counts into both calculators before you choose. Our scheduling tools pricing guide runs the same maths across the wider market.

Feature by feature

1. Publishing and networks

Both tools publish to more networks than most people use. Publer’s integrations list covers Facebook (posts, Reels and Stories), Instagram (feed, Reels and Stories), TikTok (videos and carousels), X, Threads, LinkedIn profiles and Company Pages, Pinterest, YouTube (long-form videos and Shorts), Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile, Telegram and WordPress. X is not available on the free plan. Publer also has a threads composer for X, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon.

Buffer’s supported channels are Facebook Pages and Groups, Instagram business and creator accounts (personal accounts for publishing only), X, LinkedIn Pages and profiles, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profiles, Start Page, Mastodon, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Bluesky and Substack Notes. Facebook Groups publish through notification publishing, and some newer channels can only be connected on Buffer’s current plans. Threaded posts are limited to 1 on Free and unlimited on paid plans.

Other destinationsTelegram and WordPressStart Page and Substack Notes

Edge: Publer, for long-form YouTube, WordPress and Telegram. Buffer if you publish to Substack Notes or Start Page, or want X on a free plan.

2. AI writing

Buffer’s AI Assistant helps you brainstorm ideas, repurpose existing posts, summarise long content into short posts and optimise a post for LinkedIn, Threads, X, Instagram, Bluesky and more. It is free to use, including on the free plan, and the pricing page lists unlimited AI credits on Essentials and Team, plus AI reply suggestions in the community inbox (5 a week on Free, unlimited on paid plans).

Publer’s AI Assist writes posts and creates images. According to Publer’s plan comparison, Professional includes content creation with Canva and Publer’s AI tools, and Business adds unlimited AI Assist prompts. AI Assist can also suggest replies to comments on your published posts.

Edge: Buffer, for anyone on a small budget, because its AI Assistant is free on every plan. On Publer, the unlimited version needs Business. In both tools, you tailor a post for each network one at a time.

3. Analytics

Buffer gives every plan some analytics. Free keeps 30 days of history; Essentials and Team keep unlimited history and add a performance overview, custom analytics, reports and custom UTM parameters, and Team adds branded reports. Buffer’s supported channels article notes that analytics are not available for Instagram Reels or Facebook stories because of API limits.

Publer puts its analytics on Business: advanced analytics, downloadable reports, best times to post, competitor analysis and hashtag analytics. Professional does not list analytics in Publer’s plan comparison.

Edge: Buffer for basic reporting on the cheaper plan. Publer Business for competitor analysis, hashtag analytics and best times to post.

4. Team, approvals and workspaces

Buffer’s split is simple. Essentials is for one user; Team adds unlimited users, approval workflows, custom access and permissions, and internal notes are available on both paid plans. You pay $10 per channel and add as many people as you like.

Publer lets you add team members on Professional, with unlimited workspaces for separate brands, but post approval workflows, roles and permission levels are on Business. Each additional member costs $2 on Professional or $3 on Business a month, with every 10th free.

Edge: Buffer for large teams with few channels, because users are unlimited on Team. Publer for agencies with many brands and a small team, because workspaces are unlimited and accounts cost less.

5. Engagement and inbox

Buffer lists a community inbox on every plan, including Free, with saved replies (1 on Free, unlimited on paid plans) and AI reply suggestions. Publer handles engagement per post: Publer’s help article explains that you open a published post in the calendar and view, add, delete or reply to its comments, on Facebook Pages, Facebook Groups (when posting as a Page), Instagram, X, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and YouTube. Managing comments needs the Admin role.

Edge: Buffer, for anyone who wants replies in one inbox rather than post by post. Teams whose main job is customer care usually look at a dedicated inbox tool instead of either.

6. Bulk scheduling and automation

Publer’s CSV import takes up to 500 posts per file, and Publer also offers RSS automations, automatic post recycling and recurring posts on Business. Buffer’s bulk upload takes up to 100 posts per channel per upload on paid plans and 10 on Free, supports text and single-image posts only, and does not work for YouTube.

Edge: Publer, clearly, for anyone who recycles evergreen content or imports large batches.

7. API and MCP for AI agents

Both tools now let AI agents work with your schedule, but on very different terms. Buffer’s Claude integration page describes an official remote MCP server at mcp.buffer.com/mcp for drafting posts, reviewing the queue and scheduling from Claude or Claude Code. The page does not say which plans include it. Buffer’s pricing page lists API keys on every plan: 1 key and 3,000 requests per 30 days on Free, 3 keys and 7,500 on Essentials, 5 keys and 15,000 on Team.

Publer lists API and MCP access on Business and Enterprise, but its MCP help article says the server is currently available to top ambassadors on the Enterprise plan, and the API is for Business customers in good standing. Where it is available, the MCP works with Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, with scopes for posts, media and analytics.

Edge: Buffer, for anyone who wants agent access today without an Enterprise contract. Our guide to the best schedulers for AI agents compares agent access across the market.

8. Ease of use and extras

Buffer’s strength has always been its queue: add posts, and they go out in your time slots. Its extras are focused, with an ideas board, tags, a hashtag manager, first comment scheduling and a Start Page. Publer packs in more: a calendar planner, a mobile app, a browser extension, a Canva integration, Linkie for link-in-bio pages, RSS feeds and an explore view of trending posts. Which one feels easier depends on whether you want fewer features or more of them in one place.

A third option: Postprism

Publer and Buffer both charge for every account you add. That is fair when you post to two or three, and it adds up when one brand is on LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest. Postprism prices the other way round: by brand and team size, not by channel. A workspace connects one account on each of its 6 networks, so one brand on all 6 is $19 a month on Solo, three brands with 3 team members and approvals are $49 on Freelancer, and ten brands with 10 members are $99 on Agency. Every plan has unlimited posts and starts with a 7-day free trial. See pricing.

Price is half of it. The other half is how each post gets written for each network:

  • Write once, publish natively on every platform. Click Enhance with AI and Postprism returns a separate, editable version for every network you selected in one request, shaped to each one’s length and style. Text over a network’s limit turns red so you can edit it. Plans include 150, 500 or 2,000 adaptations a month, and the AI writes with your saved brand identity: name, industry, tone, values, audience and key messages. See AI content adaptation.
  • Native formats on 6 networks. X posts with up to 4 images, LinkedIn profiles and Company Pages, TikTok video and photo posts, full YouTube uploads with title, tags, playlist and thumbnail, Bluesky text posts and Pinterest image Pins.
  • Your AI agent can run it via MCP, on every plan. Postprism’s MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients 11 tools to list workspaces, upload media, create and edit posts and read analytics. The REST API is on Freelancer and Agency. See AI agents.
  • Approvals and roles without per-seat pricing. Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer roles on every team plan, with an approval step on Freelancer and Agency. See team collaboration.
  • Planning and reporting. A calendar with month, week and day views, a kanban board, Bulk Upload for CSV files of up to 200 rows and 2 MB on every plan, and analytics over 30, 60 or 90 days on every plan, with CSV export on Agency.

The verdict

Publer is the better value for one person or a small team with many accounts, and the better pick if you need its long network list, long-form YouTube or automation features like recycling and recurring posts. Buffer is the better pick for simplicity, for a free plan with X, for a free AI Assistant and inbox on every plan, and for larger teams who want unlimited users without paying per seat. If your posting is one brand, or a few, across most of the major networks, Postprism costs less than either at that size, writes every network’s version in one step and lets your AI agent work with it on every plan.
