Metricool vs Later: which one should you choose? Metricool vs Later, in short: choose Metricool if analytics, competitor tracking and ads reporting matter most, if you manage many brands on your own, or if you want a free plan and an MCP server for AI agents; choose Later if you plan an Instagram or TikTok feed visually, want a social inbox and link in bio built around those networks, and post within its 8 networks. Neither is the best fit if you publish one brand to many networks, X included, and want a native version of every post: Postprism covers all 6 of its networks for $19 a month flat, writes every network's version in one AI request and has an MCP server on every plan.

Metricool and Later both schedule posts, both have mobile apps and both include analytics, so on a feature checklist they look close. In daily use they are built for different jobs. Metricool started as an analytics tool and still leads with reporting: unlimited history on paid plans, competitor tracking, ads reporting and PDF or PowerPoint reports. Later started as a visual Instagram planner and still leads with the feed: a drag-and-drop planner, Link in Bio and an inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. They also charge in different ways. Metricool prices by the number of brands, and Later prices by plan with Social Sets, posting limits per profile and seats. This guide compares the two on pricing at real sizes, then feature by feature, with every price and limit checked on each vendor's own pages in October 2026 and linked inline.

The table is the quick read. The rest of the guide explains where each line comes from and what it means for your bill and your week. If you want the two-way comparisons with Postprism instead, read Postprism vs Metricool and Postprism vs Later.

Pricing compared: Metricool vs Later (checked October 2026)

This is where the two tools differ most, and where the cheaper choice depends entirely on your setup. Metricool's paid plans are sold in brand tiers. Later's are sold as fixed plans, each with a number of Social Sets (one profile on each of its 8 networks), users and posts per profile.

Metricool pricing (October 2026)

From Metricool's pricing page, checked October 2026:

PlanBilled yearlyBilled monthlyBrandsKey limits
Free$0$0120 posts a month, all networks except LinkedIn and X, 5 AI credits a month, 5 competitor profiles
StarterFrom $20 a monthFrom $25 a month5 ($20 yearly) or 10 ($36 yearly, $45 monthly)Unlimited posts (fair use), LinkedIn, 20 AI credits per brand, up to 100 competitors, PDF and PPT reports, SmartLinks

CustomContact salesContact salesCustomWhite label, account manager, custom AI credits

The line to watch is X. Metricool lists Twitter/X as an add-on at $10 a month per connected account on its pricing page. One brand with X adds $10; ten brands that all post to X add $100.

Later pricing (October 2026)

From Later's pricing page, checked October 2026. The page shows prices billed yearly, which it says include 25% off.

PlanBilled yearlySocial SetsUsersPosts per profile a monthAI credits a month
Starter$18.75 a month1 (8 profiles)1305
Growth$37.50 a month2 (16 profiles)218050
Scale$82.50 a month6 (48 profiles)4Unlimited100

On Growth and Scale, an extra Social Set is $11.25 a month, an extra user is $3.75 a month and 100 extra AI credits are $3.75 a month. Starter cannot add sets or users. Every plan has a 14-day free trial.

What each tool costs at real sizes

The table uses yearly-billed prices for both tools, because Later's page shows yearly prices. Postprism's figures are its monthly prices, which are higher than its yearly ones, so the comparison does not flatter it.

SetupMetricoolLaterPostprism
1 brand on TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest and YouTube, 1 person$20 (Starter, LinkedIn needs a paid plan)$18.75 (Starter, 30 posts per profile a month)$19 (Solo, unlimited posts)
1 brand on the same networks plus X$30 (Starter plus the $10 X add-on)X is not in a Social Set$19 (Solo, X included)
3 brands, 3 people, with approvals$53 (Advanced, the first plan with approvals)$52.50 (Growth plus 1 Social Set and 1 user)$49 (Freelancer, 3 workspaces, 3 members, approvals)
10 brands, 1 person, no approvals, no X$36 (Starter, 10 brands)$127.50 (Scale plus 4 Social Sets)$99 (Agency, 10 workspaces)
10 brands, 10 people, with approvals$53 (Advanced, 15 brands; seat count not listed)$150 (Scale plus 4 Social Sets and 6 users)$99 (Agency, 10 workspaces, 10 members, approvals)

Where Metricool is cheaper: for one person running many brands without X. Ten brands on Metricool Starter cost $36 a month billed yearly, far below Later at that size. Metricool's free plan also beats Later's trial if you only need one brand and can live without LinkedIn and X.

Where Later is cheaper: at one brand on Instagram-heavy networks, Later Starter at $18.75 is the lowest paid price of the three, as long as 30 posts per profile a month is enough and you work alone.

Where both get expensive: X on Metricool adds $10 for every account, and seats on Later add up once a team grows past four people. Approvals need Advanced on Metricool and Growth on Later.

Feature by feature

1. Publishing and networks

Metricool's pricing page lists Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, LinkedIn and Google Business Profile, plus a website or blog connection, with Twitter/X as a paid add-on. The free plan covers every network except LinkedIn and X. Its planner includes Best Times, a hashtag search engine, Autolists and auto publication, and connects to Google Drive and Canva on paid plans.

Later's scheduler page lists Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat. X and Bluesky are not on the list. Its strength is the visual planner: Later describes being able to "drag, drop, and rearrange posts until your feed looks exactly how you want it", and Best Time to Post is turned on automatically for eligible profiles.

Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, ThreadsYesYes
LinkedInPaid plansYes
YouTubeYesYouTube Shorts
X (Twitter)$10 a month add-on per accountNot listed
BlueskyYesNot listed
SnapchatNot listedYes
Twitch and Google Business ProfileYesNot listed

Who wins: Metricool for breadth, especially if you need Bluesky, Twitch or Google Business Profile. Later if Snapchat matters or you want to plan an Instagram grid visually.

2. AI writing

Metricool's AI writes posts using settings you save per brand. Its AI configuration help article describes a brand-wide writing style plus a separate block of instructions for each connected network, for example a more professional voice on LinkedIn and a more casual one on Instagram. Credits are small: 5 a month on Free, 20 per brand on Starter and 35 per brand on Advanced.

Later's AI tools are a Caption Writer that turns a few keywords into captions in your brand's voice, an Ideas tab for post concepts and content pillars, and Best Time to Post. Caption Writer and Ideas share one monthly pool: 1 credit per caption, 3 ideas per credit, resetting on the 1st. The pool is 5 credits on Starter, 50 on Growth and 100 on Scale, and AI tools need a paid plan.

Who wins: Metricool, narrowly, because per-network instructions mean each network's draft can sound different. Later's credits go further per brand on Growth and Scale.

3. Analytics and reporting

This is Metricool's home ground. Its pricing page lists unlimited analytics history on paid plans (under its fair use policy), up to 100 competitor profiles, ads connections for Facebook, Google and TikTok Ads, PDF and PowerPoint reports with automated reports from Starter, and customisable templates with a Data Studio connector on Advanced.

Later's analytics are deepest for Instagram. History runs to 3 months on Starter, 1 year on Growth and 2 years on Scale, with an Instagram Performance Report on every plan. Custom Analytics with shareable reports, Meta Ads analytics, competitive benchmarking, brand health and brand mentions are on Scale only.

Who wins: Metricool, clearly, for anyone who reports to clients or a manager. For more options, see our list of social media analytics tools.

4. Team and approvals

Metricool keeps team features for Advanced: team and client management, role management and post approval all start at $53 a month billed yearly. The pricing page does not give a seat count per plan.

Later's Starter is one user. Growth adds a content approval workflow with 2 users, Scale has 4, and extra users are $3.75 a month each on either plan.

Who wins: Later for a small team that wants approvals at a lower entry price; Metricool for agencies that need client management across many brands.

5. Inbox

Metricool includes an inbox on every plan. On Free it covers Instagram, Facebook, Google Business Profile, TikTok and YouTube; paid plans add LinkedIn, with X via the add-on.

Later's Social Inbox is on Growth and Scale only. It handles comments on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok and direct messages on Instagram and Facebook. Later notes that account owners cannot yet restrict individual members' inbox access.

Who wins: Metricool, for coverage and because it starts on the free plan.

6. API, MCP and AI agents

This is the clearest gap between the two. Metricool's MCP FAQ says the Metricool MCP "works with any Metricool plan, including Free". An AI client such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read brands and analytics, schedule posts, edit scheduled posts and send posts for review. It cannot handle inbox messages, comments or ads campaigns. Metricool's API, for Zapier, Make and custom reports, is on Advanced and Custom.

Later's pricing, scheduler and AI pages, checked October 2026, do not list an MCP server or a public API.

Who wins: Metricool. If you want Claude or ChatGPT to work with your schedule, Later is not an option today. For the wider picture, see social media scheduling tools for AI agents.

7. Mobile app and link in bio

Both have iOS and Android apps. Metricool's mobile app covers planning and editing posts, AI text, analytics and basic reports, the inbox and approvals, but not per-network editing, SmartLinks or user management. Later's app and Link in Bio are on every plan. Metricool's link-in-bio tool, SmartLinks, is on paid plans.

Who wins: Later, for creators who live on their phone and drive traffic through a bio link.

Who should choose Metricool

  • Marketers and agencies whose main job is reporting: unlimited history, competitor tracking, ads data and PDF or PowerPoint reports.
  • One person managing five to ten brands on a tight budget, without X, where Starter at $20 to $36 a month billed yearly is hard to beat.
  • Anyone who wants a free plan for one brand, or an MCP server for an AI agent without paying.
  • Brands that post to Bluesky, Twitch or Google Business Profile.

Who should choose Later

  • Instagram and TikTok-first creators and brands who plan the grid visually with drag and drop.
  • Small teams of two to four who want an approval workflow and a social inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok on Growth.
  • Anyone who schedules to Snapchat or relies on Link in Bio.
  • Instagram accounts that want one or two years of Instagram analytics history.

A third option: Postprism

Metricool and Later each solve a real problem, and each has a gap for a common setup: one brand that posts to many networks, X and LinkedIn included, and wants each network to get its own version of every post. On Metricool, that brand pays $10 a month extra for X and gets 20 AI credits a month. On Later, X and Bluesky are not available, and Starter caps posts at 30 per profile a month. Postprism is built for exactly that brand, and it is the better fit for most teams posting one brand to many networks at a flat price.

  • One brand on all 6 networks for $19. Solo is $19 a month ($14 billed yearly) and covers LinkedIn profiles and Company Pages, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest in one workspace, with unlimited posts. Freelancer is $49 for 3 workspaces and 3 members, and Agency is $99 for 10 of each. See pricing.
  • Every network's version in one request. Write the post once, click Enhance with AI, and Postprism returns a separate, editable version for every network you selected, shaped by your saved brand identity. Plans include 150, 500 or 2,000 adaptations a month, against 20 to 35 credits per brand on Metricool and 5 to 100 on Later. See AI content adaptation.
  • Agent access on every plan. Postprism's hosted MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients 11 tools to list workspaces and accounts, create and edit posts, upload media and read analytics. The REST API is on Freelancer and Agency, a tier lower than Metricool's API. See AI agents.
  • Full YouTube uploads and native formats. YouTube videos go out with title, tags, privacy, playlist, thumbnail and the made-for-kids setting. X takes up to 4 images, and TikTok takes video and photo posts.
  • Approvals from $49. Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer roles, with an approval step and request-changes notes on Freelancer and Agency. Three brands with three people and approvals cost $49 a month, against $52.50 on Later and $53 billed yearly on Metricool.
  • Bulk scheduling and analytics on every plan. Bulk Upload takes a CSV of up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file, and analytics cover 30, 60 or 90 days with CSV export on Agency. See bulk scheduling.

Postprism focuses on writing, scheduling and publishing, so if deep competitor reporting is your main job, Metricool is the stronger reporting tool, and if a visual Instagram grid is the centre of your week, Later is the more visual planner. For everyone else posting one brand across many networks, Postprism costs less and does more of the writing. The verdict

Metricool is the better pick of the two for analytics, many brands on a budget, inbox coverage and AI agent access, and its free plan is genuinely useful. Later is the better pick for visual Instagram and TikTok planning, Snapchat and Link in Bio, with approvals at a lower entry price. If you post one brand to many networks and want each network to get its own post, Postprism beats both: $19 a month flat for all 6 networks with X included, every network's version from one click of Enhance with AI and an MCP server on every plan.
