Best Metricool Alternatives in 2026: 8 Tools Compared

What's the best Metricool alternative? Postprism is the best Metricool alternative in 2026: it publishes one brand to 6 networks, X and LinkedIn included, for $19 a month flat, writes a native version of every post for each network in one AI request, and has approvals from $49 and an MCP server for AI agents on every plan, where Metricool charges $20 a month billed yearly plus a $10 add-on for each X account. Buffer suits solo creators on a few channels, Publer suits budget creators who want a free plan, Later suits Instagram-first visual planning, SocialPilot suits agencies on a budget, Agorapulse suits inbox-heavy teams, and Hootsuite and Sprout Social suit larger teams that need listening and governance.

Metricool has earned its following. Its analytics are deep for the price, its free plan is useful for one brand, and its per-brand pricing is kind to anyone who runs several small brands alone. People start looking for a Metricool alternative for practical reasons: X is a paid add-on per connected account, the free plan leaves out LinkedIn and X, team management and approvals only arrive on Advanced, and the AI assistant runs on a small allowance of credits per brand. If you are weighing just the two products, our head-to-head page, Postprism vs Metricool, covers that comparison in detail. This guide looks wider, ranking eight tools on cost at realistic sizes, network coverage, AI writing and agent access, with every competitor price checked on the vendor's own page in October 2026.

Why Postprism is the Metricool alternative to pick

  • X and LinkedIn are included, at a flat price. Solo is $19 a month ($14 billed yearly), Freelancer $49 and Agency $99, with unlimited posts on every plan. A workspace connects one account per network, so one brand on all 6 networks, X and LinkedIn among them, is $19. There is no per-account add-on for any network. See pricing.
  • A native version for every network in one request. Write once, click Enhance with AI, and Postprism returns a separate, editable version for every network you selected: a fuller LinkedIn post, a short X post, a TikTok caption. Plans include 150, 500 or 2,000 AI adaptations a month, against Metricool's 5 to 35 AI credits per brand. See AI content adaptation.
  • Approvals and a REST API without moving up a tier. Freelancer at $49 gives 3 members, 3 workspaces, an approval step and the REST API. On Metricool, team management, approvals and the API all start on Advanced, from $53 a month billed yearly.
  • Your AI agent can run it via MCP, on every plan. Postprism's hosted MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients 11 tools to list workspaces and accounts, create, edit and delete posts, upload media and read analytics. Posts an agent creates without a date wait as drafts on your calendar. See AI agents.

Key findings

  • Metricool prices by brand, then charges for X. Metricool's pricing page lists Starter from $20 a month billed yearly ($25 monthly) for up to 5 brands and Advanced from $53 ($67 monthly) for up to 15 brands. X is an add-on at $10 a month per connected account on every paid plan.
  • The free plan is real, with limits. It covers 1 brand, 20 scheduled posts a month, 30 days of analytics and 5 AI credits, with every network except LinkedIn and X.
  • Teams pay for Advanced. Team and client management, roles, post approval and the Metricool API (Zapier, Make) are listed on Advanced and Custom only.
  • Agent access is spreading, unevenly. Metricool MCP works on every plan including Free, Buffer has an official remote MCP server, Agorapulse lists MCP for ChatGPT and Claude on every plan, Publer lists MCP on Business for eligible customers, Hootsuite's MCP page lists four servers without saying which plans include them, and the Later and Sprout Social pricing pages do not list one.
  • Per-seat suites cost the most. Hootsuite starts at $99 per user a month billed annually and Sprout Social at $79 per seat a month billed annually.
  • Postprism stays at $19 for one brand on any or all of its 6 networks, X included, and moves to $49 or $99 only when you add brands, client workspaces or team members.

What Metricool costs at real sizes, against Postprism and the rest

Per-brand, per-channel, per-seat and flat pricing behave very differently once you add X, a second person or an approval step. The table prices four common setups. Each one includes X, because that is where Metricool's bill changes most. It shows the lowest plan on each vendor's page that covers the setup, at the monthly list price where the vendor shows one, and the yearly-billed price per month where it does not. All competitor prices were checked October 2026 and link to the vendor's pricing page.

Where Metricool is cheaper, plainly: if you skip X, Metricool's free plan costs nothing for one brand, and Starter at $20 a month billed yearly covers up to 5 brands ($36 for up to 10) for one person who does not need approvals. A solo manager running four or five small brands without X pays less on Metricool Starter than on Postprism Agency. The maths flips when X is part of the plan, when a second person needs to approve posts, or when publishing rather than reporting is the main job: one brand with X is $30 a month on Metricool and $19 on Postprism, and three brands with a three-person team and approvals is $83 or more on Metricool against $49 on Postprism Freelancer.

Publer does not fit the grid neatly. Publer's plans and pricing article (checked October 2026) lists Professional from $5 a month for 1 social account and Business from $10, with every 10th account or member free and 20% off billed yearly. Its live total for more accounts is in the calculator on Publer's plans page.

How we ranked these Metricool alternatives

Every tool was judged on the same five questions, using each vendor's own pricing and help pages in October 2026. We weighted the first two most heavily, because they are why people leave Metricool.

What Metricool does well, and where it gets harder

Before the list, it is worth being clear about Metricool's strengths, because they are real. It started as an analytics tool, and it shows.

  • Analytics depth for the price. Metricool's pricing page lists unlimited analytics history on paid plans, up to 100 competitor profiles, automated reports, PDF and PPT downloads on Starter and above, and customisable report templates on Advanced.
  • Ads alongside organic. Paid plans connect Facebook, Google and TikTok Ads accounts: 1 on Free, 10 on Starter and 50 on Advanced.
  • Brand-based pricing. A brand is one business, brand or customer, with one profile per network under it. Starter covers up to 5 brands from $20 a month billed yearly, which is cheap for a solo manager with several small brands.
  • Wide network list. Metricool's MCP FAQ lists Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky and Twitch, and the pricing page adds Google Business Profile, with one brand per location.
  • Metricool MCP on every plan. The Metricool MCP FAQ says it works with any plan, including Free, and lets AI tools read brands and analytics, schedule and edit posts and create posts for review. Ads campaign management, the inbox, comments and SmartLinks are not available through it.
  • A mobile app. Metricool's mobile app runs on iOS 14 and Android 8 or higher, with planning, analytics, the inbox and approvals.

Where it gets harder is the shape of the bill and the shape of the publishing work. X adds $10 a month for every connected account, LinkedIn is missing from the free plan, and a second person who needs to approve posts means Advanced. The AI assistant lets you set writing instructions per network, but it runs on 20 credits per brand a month on Starter and 35 on Advanced. Those are the gaps the tools below fill in different ways.

1. Postprism: For anyone who wants native posts on every network at a flat price

Postprism is a social media scheduler that publishes to X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest from one calendar. Its idea is simple: write once, publish natively on every platform, and let your AI agent run it via MCP if you want. Each post holds a separate, editable version for every network you pick, so you never have to send the same caption everywhere. For the direct comparison, read Postprism vs Metricool.

What it publishes on each network

Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

Why Metricool users pick it

  • Enhance with AI. One click returns a version of your post for every selected network, shaped to each one's length and style. Anything over a network's limit turns red so you can edit it, and nothing is trimmed without you seeing it.
  • Brand identity. The AI writes with your saved brand name, industry, tone, values, audience and key messages, so drafts sound like you from the start. See brand voice.
  • Analytics that cover what publishers check. Impressions, reach, clicks, engagement rate, top posts and publish success per network, over 30, 60 or 90 days on every plan, with CSV export on Agency. See analytics.
  • Calendar and kanban. Month, week and day views with a platform filter, a kanban board with Drafts, Scheduled and Published columns, and a Generate content plan button that builds a 4-week plan.
  • Agents. The hosted MCP server's 11 tools cover posts, media, analytics, platforms and workspaces. Claude and ChatGPT setup guides walk through connecting in a few minutes.
  • Clients and approvals. Freelancer and Agency give each client a workspace, with Owner, Admin, Editor and read-only Viewer roles, and an approval step where Owners and Admins approve or request changes.

Choose Postprism if publishing is the main job, X and LinkedIn are part of your plan, you want each network to get its own version without rewriting by hand, or you want a small team to approve posts without paying for an analytics tier. Start a 7-day free trial.

2. Buffer: For solo creators on a few channels

Buffer's pricing page (checked October 2026) prices by channel: a free plan for up to 3 channels, Essentials at $5 a month per channel and Team at $10 a month per channel, with a lower per-channel price above 10 channels.

  • Free plan: up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 1 user, 30 days of insights history and 1 API key with 3,000 requests a month.
  • Teams: Team adds unlimited users and approval workflows; Essentials has neither.
  • AI: the AI Assistant is on every plan, including Free.
  • Agents: Buffer's Claude integration page describes a remote MCP server at mcp.buffer.com/mcp for drafting posts, reviewing the queue and scheduling. The page does not say which plans include it.
  • Networks: Buffer's supported channels include Facebook Pages and groups, Instagram, X, LinkedIn Pages and profiles, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profiles, Start Page, Mastodon, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Bluesky and Substack.

Choose Buffer if you post to three or four channels on your own and want X and LinkedIn on a free or $5-a-channel plan. Per-channel pricing climbs as you add networks: one brand on 6 networks is $30 on Essentials. See our Buffer alternative page or the best Buffer alternatives guide.

3. Publer: For budget creators who want a free plan

Publer's plans and pricing article (checked October 2026, last updated 15 September 2026) lists Professional from $5 a month for 1 social account and 1 user, and Business from $10 a month, with 20% off billed yearly. For every 9 social accounts or extra members, the 10th is free.

  • Free plan: up to 3 accounts (not X), 1 user, 1 workspace, 10 scheduled posts per account at a time and 25 drafts.
  • Professional: adds X, unlimited scheduling, drafts and workspaces, and bulk scheduling, with a 7-day free trial.
  • Business: adds unlimited AI Assist prompts, advanced analytics, approval workflows, the API and MCP access for eligible customers, with a 14-day free trial.

Choose Publer if you want a free start, or a per-account price that begins very low. Per-account pricing still grows as you add accounts, so price your real count in its calculator. See our Publer alternative page.

4. Later: For Instagram-first visual planning

Later's pricing page (checked October 2026) shows plans billed yearly: Starter at $18.75 a month with 1 social set (8 profiles, one per network) and 1 user, Growth at $37.50 with 2 social sets and 2 users, and Scale at $82.50 with 6 social sets and 4 users. Each has a 14-day free trial.

  • Post limits: 30 posts per profile a month on Starter, 180 on Growth, unlimited on Scale.
  • AI: 5, 50 or 100 AI credits a month.

  • Analytics: up to 3 months on Starter, 1 year on Growth and 2 years on Scale, with competitive benchmarking of up to 20 competitors on Scale.
  • Add-ons: on Growth and Scale, an extra social set is $11.25 a month, an extra user $3.75 and 100 extra AI credits $3.75.
  • Networks: Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat. X is not on the list.

Choose Later if Instagram and TikTok are the centre of your plan, you want link in bio on every plan, and you do not post to X. See our Later alternative page.

  • Agents: the plan comparison lists MCP Server Integration, and API Access sits with Enterprise.
  • Networks: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube, Pinterest and Google Business.

Choose SocialPilot if you run an agency with many accounts and want client approvals and white-label reports in one suite. Bulk upload, which is on every Postprism plan, starts at its $100 Premium plan. See our SocialPilot alternative page.

6. Agorapulse: For inbox-heavy teams that want ROI reporting

Agorapulse's pricing page (checked October 2026) lists Standard at $79 per user a month billed annually ($99 monthly), Professional at $119 ($149) and Advanced at $149 ($199), each with 10 social profiles, and a tailored Custom plan. The free trial runs 30 days.

  • Approvals and bulk: simple approval workflows start at Professional; bulk scheduling of up to 200 posts from a CSV starts at Advanced; multi-step approvals are on Custom.
  • Reporting: a basic ROI report on every plan, an advanced ROI report from Advanced, and data retention of 6, 12 or 24 months by plan.
  • Agents: MCP for ChatGPT and Claude is listed on every plan. The Reports open API is on Custom.

7. Hootsuite: For larger teams that need listening

Hootsuite's plans page (checked October 2026) says Standard starts at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced goes up to $399, priced per user a month and billed annually, with a 14-day free trial. Standard covers 10 social accounts; Professional and Advanced cover unlimited accounts.

  • AI: every plan includes Wisdom, Hootsuite's AI, which drafts, recommends and analyses.
  • Listening: Standard monitors your brand and competitors and benchmarks against 5 competitors; Professional adds 30-day Quick Search, 90-day trend forecasting and up to 20 competitors.
  • Approvals: content review and approval with your team is part of Advanced.
  • Inbox: one inbox on Standard, automated replies on Professional, and assignment and routing on Advanced.
  • Networks: Hootsuite's FAQ lists Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, WhatsApp and Pinterest.

Choose Hootsuite if listening, customer care and a routed inbox matter as much as publishing, and the budget is per seat. See our Hootsuite alternative page or Buffer vs Hootsuite.

8. Sprout Social: For enterprise social teams

Sprout Social's pricing page (checked October 2026) lists Essentials at $79 per seat a month billed annually ($99 monthly) with 5 social profiles, Standard at $199 with 5 profiles, Professional at $299 with unlimited profiles and Advanced at $399 with unlimited profiles. The free trial runs 30 days.

  • AI: Trellis, Sprout's AI, comes with 100 credits per seat a month on every listed plan.
  • Listening: an add-on from Standard, priced by demo.
  • API: the Sprout API and Helpdesk integrations are on Advanced. The pricing page does not mention an MCP server.

Choose Sprout Social if you are a larger company that needs governance, listening and reporting, and seat pricing fits the budget. A three-person team on Professional is $897 a month billed annually. See our Sprout Social alternative page.

How to choose a Metricool alternative

Start from what you post and who touches it, not from a feature list. Five questions settle most decisions.

  1. Is publishing or reporting the main job? If your deliverable is a monthly report with competitor and ads data, Metricool's analytics are hard to beat at its price. If the deliverable is posts going out on time on every network, pick a tool built around the composer and calendar.
  2. Does X matter? Count your X accounts. On Metricool each one adds $10 a month; on Postprism, Buffer, SocialPilot, Agorapulse, Hootsuite and Sprout Social it is part of the plan, and Later does not list X at all.
  3. Who else needs to approve posts? Check which plan unlocks approvals. On Metricool it is Advanced, on Postprism Freelancer, on Buffer Team, on SocialPilot Standard, on Agorapulse Professional and on Hootsuite Advanced.
  4. Do you want each network to get its own post? If your LinkedIn, X and Instagram audiences want different things, a tool that writes a version per network in one step, with enough AI requests for your volume, saves the most time.
  5. Will an AI agent do part of the work? Metricool MCP is on every plan, so make sure your next tool keeps that. Postprism, Agorapulse and Buffer all offer MCP; check the plan on each.

Why people switch from Metricool

X costs extra for every account

Metricool's X add-on is $10 a month per connected account on every paid plan. For one brand that turns a $20 Starter bill into $30; for ten brands it adds $100 a month. On Postprism, X is one of the 6 networks every workspace can connect, on every plan.

LinkedIn needs a paid plan

The free plan covers every network except LinkedIn and X. For B2B brands, founders and consultants, LinkedIn is often the network that matters most, which makes the free plan a trial of the wrong channels.

Approvals and the API mean Advanced

Team and client management, roles, post approval and the Metricool API are all listed on Advanced and Custom. A freelancer with two clients and a reviewer pays from $53 a month billed yearly, plus X. Postprism Freelancer is $49 with three workspaces, three members, an approval step with request-changes notes and the REST API.

AI credits run out quickly

Metricool's AI assistant gets 5 credits a month on Free, 20 per brand on Starter and 35 per brand on Advanced. Someone posting daily to several networks uses that in about a week. Postprism plans include 150, 500 or 2,000 Enhance with AI requests a month, and each request writes a version for every network you selected.

Publishing is the work, not the report

Metricool is built around analytics, and many people use it as a reporting tool first. When the daily job is writing for six networks and getting posts out, the composer matters more than the dashboard: per-network versions, full YouTube uploads with title, tags, playlist and thumbnail, and TikTok video and photo posts. Our post on whether cross-posting hurts reach explains why per-network versions matter.

A worked example: three brands, one small team

Consider Northwind Studio, a fictional two-person design studio that runs social for three local clients: a bakery, a gym and a bookshop. Each client posts to LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest. The studio's two designers write the posts, and each client owner wants to approve them before they go out.

  • Metricool Starter: $20 a month billed yearly for up to 5 brands, plus $30 for three X accounts, so $50. But Starter has no team management or post approval, so it does not cover the setup.
  • Metricool Advanced: $53 a month billed yearly plus $30 for X, so $83 ($97 billed monthly), with team members and approvals.
  • Postprism Freelancer: $49 a month ($36 billed yearly), with each client in its own workspace, the designers as Editors, each owner approving in the Approvals queue, and X included.

The saving is real, but the bigger change is the work. Instead of writing a caption and adjusting it for six networks, a designer writes once, clicks Enhance with AI and gets a TikTok caption, a LinkedIn post, a short X post and the rest, each ready to edit. Analytics for each client cover 30, 60 or 90 days in the same app.

How to switch from Metricool to Postprism

A clean switch takes an afternoon for one brand. Keep two weeks planned in Metricool while you set up, so nothing goes quiet during the move.

  1. Export your upcoming posts. Open Metricool's Planner and copy the next four weeks into a spreadsheet with three columns: content, scheduled_at and, where a post has an image or video, media_url.
  2. Save the reports you need. Download PDF or PPT reports for the periods you want to keep, since past analytics stay in Metricool.
  3. Start the trial and create workspaces. Sign up, then create one workspace per brand or client before connecting anything.
  4. Connect your networks. Connect X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest accounts in each workspace.
  5. Set up your brand identity. Add your industry, tone, values, audience and key messages so Enhance with AI writes in your voice. If you wrote per-network instructions in Metricool's AI settings, carry the useful parts into your key messages.
  6. Bulk Upload the CSV. Save the spreadsheet as CSV (up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file, on every plan), choose the platforms for the upload and check the preview. For XLSX or JSON, or files in Google Drive or Dropbox, use the AI Scheduling Assistant instead. See bulk scheduling.
  7. Reconnect your agents. If Claude or ChatGPT used Metricool MCP, connect them to Postprism's MCP server and ask for one week of drafts to test.
  8. Remove posts from Metricool, then change plan. Delete the posts you moved from Metricool's Planner before the first one is due, so nothing goes out twice. Metricool says a cancelled plan runs to the end of the billing cycle and then becomes a free account.

Common mistakes when leaving Metricool

  1. Comparing entry prices only. Price your real setup: number of brands, X accounts, people and whether anyone approves.
  2. Forgetting the reports. Download the reports clients expect before you change plan.
  3. Running two schedules. Remove moved posts from the old planner the day the new one starts, or posts go out twice.
  4. Sending one caption everywhere. A switch is the moment to give each network its own version.
  5. Letting an agent publish unreviewed. Have agents create drafts first, then review them on the calendar. Our guide to the best schedulers for AI agents compares how each tool handles this.

The verdict

Metricool is a strong analytics tool with a useful free plan, and for a solo manager reporting on several small brands without X, it is good value. Once publishing becomes the main job, X and LinkedIn are part of the plan, or a second person needs to approve posts, Postprism is the best Metricool alternative: $19 a month flat for 6 networks with X included, a native version of every post from one click of Enhance with AI, Bulk Upload and an MCP server for AI agents on every plan, and client workspaces with approvals from $49. Choose Buffer or Publer for a free start, Later for Instagram-first planning, SocialPilot for budget agency suites, Agorapulse for inbox and ROI reporting, and Hootsuite or Sprout Social for enterprise listening.
