What is the best YouTube scheduler in 2026? Postprism is the best YouTube scheduler for most creators and teams, because it uploads a video or Short at the time you set with its title, tags, privacy, category, made-for-kids answer, thumbnail and playlist already applied, and schedules the matching posts for 5 other networks from the same calendar, from $19 a month.
YouTube Studio's own scheduler is free and fine for YouTube alone. Metricool suits budget-minded creators who want every YouTube field, SocialPilot and Vista Social suit agencies, Hootsuite, Sprout Social and Agorapulse suit larger teams, Later and Buffer suit creators who only post Shorts, and TubeBuddy is a companion for channel optimisation rather than a cross-network scheduler. Every price and capability below was checked on the vendor's own site in October 2026.
Key findings
- YouTube is the biggest video network to plan for. YouTube says Shorts now average over 200 billion daily views and that more than 20 million videos are uploaded every day, so a scheduled upload competes with a lot of fresh content.
- Several popular schedulers handle Shorts only. Buffer's help centre says "We do not support long-form YouTube videos at this time", and Later's help centre also limits YouTube publishing to Shorts. If you post full-length videos, check this first.
- The fields differ more than the prices. Some tools set only a title and description. Others, including Postprism, Metricool, SocialPilot and Vista Social, also set tags, category, privacy, playlist and the made-for-kids answer that YouTube requires on every upload.
- Two YouTube settings are now mandatory or close to it. Every creator must say whether a video is made for kids, and realistic content made or changed with AI must be disclosed. A scheduler that cannot send these leaves you fixing videos by hand.
- Custom thumbnails need a verified channel. YouTube only accepts custom thumbnails from verified accounts, and several tools (Buffer, Later, Publer, Vista Social, Agorapulse) say custom thumbnails are not available for Shorts.
- Pricing models vary from $3 to $399 a month. TubeBuddy Pro starts at $3 a month, Buffer charges $5 per channel, Postprism covers 6 networks from $19, and Hootsuite and Sprout Social start at $99 and $79 or more per user.
What changed for YouTube scheduling in 2026
Shorts became a default format, not a side project
A vertical video of up to 3 minutes is now treated as a Short. That made Shorts the easiest way for brands and creators who already make vertical video for TikTok and Instagram to show up on YouTube too. It also means a YouTube scheduler has to handle the same file going to three or four networks, each with its own caption, and to YouTube with a title and tags.
Disclosure and audience settings got stricter
The made-for-kids question and the altered or synthetic content disclosure are part of the upload, not optional extras. If your scheduler cannot send them, YouTube may ask you to set them later in Studio, and a video that is mislabelled can lose features such as comments or personalised ads. Tools that ask for these answers before scheduling save you from fixing videos after they go live.
Reused content is under more scrutiny
YouTube renamed its repetitious content policy to "inauthentic content" in July 2025. For anyone cross-posting video, the practical rule is simple: upload the original file to each network and write a YouTube-specific title and description, rather than reposting a download from another app.
AI assistants started to run schedules
Teams increasingly ask an AI assistant to draft and queue posts. A scheduler with an MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor create a YouTube post with the same fields as the composer. Postprism includes its MCP server on every plan, so an assistant can set the title, tags, privacy, made-for-kids answer, category, synthetic media flag, playlist and thumbnail of a scheduled video.
The YouTube specs every scheduler has to respect
These are the limits that decide whether a scheduled video goes out cleanly. A good YouTube scheduler checks them for you before the publish time, rather than failing at upload.
| Setting | YouTube's rule | What to look for in a scheduler |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Up to 100 characters, no < or > | A title field with a counter, and a check that a title exists |
| Description | Up to 5,000 bytes | A YouTube-specific description, separate from your other networks |
| Tags | 500 characters in total, counting commas and quotes | A tag field that counts the way YouTube does |
| Shorts | Vertical, up to 3 minutes | Uploads your file as exported so YouTube can classify it |
| Video length | 15 minutes by default; verified accounts up to 12 hours or 256 GB | Resumable uploads for big files |
| Custom thumbnail | 16:9, at least 640 px wide, JPG or PNG; verified channels | A thumbnail upload that converts and resizes for you |
| Made for kids | Required on every video | A setting that blocks scheduling until it is answered |
| Altered or synthetic content | Realistic AI-made content must be disclosed | A disclosure switch on each post |

How we evaluated YouTube schedulers
Every tool on this list can put a video on YouTube at a set time. That is the starting point. We ranked them on the things that decide whether you still need to open YouTube Studio after scheduling.
- Formats. Long-form videos and Shorts, or Shorts only?
- Upload settings. Title, description, tags, privacy, category, made for kids, synthetic media disclosure, thumbnail and playlist.
- Cross-network value. Can the same idea go to TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and the rest with its own caption, from the same calendar?
- Team fit. Approvals, roles and workspaces for clients.
- Cost. What a creator, a small team and an agency would actually pay.
We used each vendor's pricing page and help centre in October 2026. Where a page did not state a capability, we left it out of the comparison rather than guess.
The 10 best YouTube schedulers, ranked
1. Postprism: best overall YouTube scheduler
What it is. A social media scheduler that publishes to 6 networks (YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky and Pinterest) from one content calendar. On YouTube it publishes one video per post, long-form or Short, through YouTube's own API.
How it handles YouTube. You upload the video, write the YouTube version of the post as the description, then set the title (with a 100-character check), tags, privacy, category, the made-for-kids answer, the altered or synthetic content switch, a playlist and a custom thumbnail. Postprism will not schedule a YouTube post until it has a title and a made-for-kids answer, so videos do not go live half-configured. Hashtags you add for YouTube become search tags within YouTube's 500-character tag budget. A vertical video of up to 3 minutes is shown by YouTube as a Short, with the same settings.
Standout features.
- Uploads at the time you set. The video goes up at the scheduled time with every setting applied, using a resumable upload that retries when YouTube is briefly busy.
- Thumbnails that just work. Postprism converts your image to a JPEG or PNG under 2 MB and up to 1280 px, sets it right after the upload, then adds the video to your playlist. If YouTube refuses either step, the video stays published and the post shows a warning.
- One idea, every network. The same post can carry a TikTok caption, a LinkedIn text post and an X post alongside the YouTube upload, each with its own text. See multi-platform posting.
- Optional AI. Enhance with AI suggests a YouTube title of up to 100 characters and tags within the budget, alongside the description and versions for your other networks, in your brand identity. You edit before anything is scheduled. See AI content adaptation.
- Bulk and assistant scheduling. Import a CSV of posts or plan with the AI scheduling assistant, and connect Claude or ChatGPT through the MCP server on every plan. See AI agents.
- YouTube results next to everything else. Analytics show video and channel results alongside your other networks, over 30, 60 or 90 days.
Who it is for. Creators, small businesses and agencies for whom YouTube is one channel of several, and who want each upload fully set up without opening YouTube Studio. Freelancer and Agency plans add a single Owner or Admin approval step and 3 or 10 workspaces for clients.
Pricing. $19 a month for Solo, $49 for Freelancer and $99 for Agency, or $14, $36 and $75 a month billed annually, all with unlimited posts and a 7-day free trial. Read more on the YouTube scheduler page.
2. YouTube Studio: best free option for YouTube alone
What it is. YouTube's own upload flow. On the visibility step you choose Schedule and pick a date, time and time zone, according to YouTube Help.
How it works. The video is uploaded immediately and kept private, then made public at the time you set. You have the full YouTube Studio editor, including chapters, end screens and cards, which no third-party tool fully replicates.
Limits. It schedules YouTube only, with no calendar across networks, no approval step and no assistant connection. YouTube Help also notes that a video under a Community Guidelines strike is set to private and needs to be rescheduled when the restriction ends.
Best for solo creators who only post to YouTube and want every Studio feature. Pricing: free.
3. Metricool: best for budget creators who want every YouTube field
What it is. A planner with analytics, priced by brand. Its help centre lists both videos and Shorts for YouTube.
Standout features. One of the fullest YouTube field sets we found: title (100 characters), description, tags, category, privacy, thumbnail (upload or a frame), playlist, made for kids, notify subscribers, an AI-generated label and a first comment, according to Metricool's YouTube help article.
Limits. Videos must be MP4 or MOV up to 500 MB, and Metricool advises keeping Shorts under 2:59 so they are not published as standard videos. YouTube publishing is capped at 10 posts per 24 hours on the free plan and 20 on paid plans. The free plan covers one brand with 20 posts a month.
Pricing. Starter from about $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly, and Advanced from about $53 annually or $67 monthly, per Metricool's pricing page, checked October 2026. See our Metricool alternative comparison.
Best for creators and small brands on a budget who want detailed YouTube settings and analytics in one tool.
4. SocialPilot: best for agencies scheduling client channels
What it is. An agency-oriented scheduler. Its YouTube help article covers videos and Shorts.
Standout features. A full set of upload fields: title (100 characters), thumbnail for verified channels, description, tags, privacy, playlist, category, made for kids, licence (Standard or Creative Commons), notify subscribers and allow embedding.
Limits. The live pricing page showed local currency when we checked, with a 14-day trial and no free plan. The help article gives no Shorts-specific steps.
Pricing. SocialPilot's billing help article lists Standard at $42.50 a month (15 accounts, 3 users), Premium at $85 (25 accounts, 6 users) and Ultimate at $170 (50 accounts, unlimited users), billed annually, checked October 2026. Compare on our SocialPilot alternative page.
Best for agencies that manage several client YouTube channels and want client management in the same tool.
5. Vista Social: best for teams that want YouTube plus an inbox
What it is. An all-in-one tool with publishing, inbox and reporting, priced by profile bundle.
Standout features. Its YouTube publishing help covers classic videos and Shorts, with privacy, playlist, category, tags, made for kids, a first comment and thumbnails for standard videos.
Limits. Shorts must be vertical and under 180 seconds, custom thumbnails are not available for Shorts, and only video posts are supported (no community or image posts). There is no free plan.
Pricing. $99 a month for 15 profiles, $199 for 30 and $449 for 70, or $950, $1,910 and $4,310 a year, with a 14-day trial, per Vista Social's pricing page, checked October 2026. See our Vista Social alternative page.
Best for social teams that want to schedule YouTube and answer comments across networks in one place.
6. Hootsuite: best for enterprise teams
What it is. The enterprise suite, with long-form videos and Shorts on YouTube.
Standout features. Hootsuite's guide to scheduling YouTube videos covers title, description, tags, category, thumbnail and privacy. A scheduled video is uploaded as unlisted with "Schedule to go Public" turned on. Its help centre also covers adding videos to playlists.
Limits. Per-user pricing, and the trial limits posting volume and excludes bulk scheduling.
Pricing. Standard from $99 a month per user (10 social accounts), Professional from $199 (unlimited accounts) and Advanced up to $399, billed annually, with a 14-day trial, per Hootsuite's plans page, checked October 2026. See our Hootsuite alternative page.
Best for large teams that need YouTube publishing inside a wider stack of inbox, listening and governance.
7. Sprout Social: best for brands that need reporting depth
What it is. A premium social suite with YouTube publishing from Compose.
Standout features. Sprout's YouTube publishing help covers drafting, scheduling and queueing videos with visibility, category and an optional playlist (created on YouTube first). Its blog describes scheduling Shorts and optimal send times.
Limits. Uploads from Sprout are capped at 3 GB, and pricing is per seat.
Pricing. Essentials at $79 per seat a month billed annually or $99 monthly (5 profiles), Standard at $199, Professional at $299 and Advanced at $399, with a 30-day trial, per Sprout's pricing page, checked October 2026. See our Sprout Social alternative page.
Best for marketing teams that report YouTube alongside other networks to leadership and need deep analytics.
8. Agorapulse: best for teams that recycle evergreen videos
What it is. A social suite with publishing queues and an inbox.
Standout features. Publishing queues with repeat settings for evergreen content, and YouTube publishing that auto-detects Shorts (vertical and under 3 minutes), per its network publishing guide.
Limits. The same guide says unlisted videos, community posts and custom Shorts thumbnails are not supported, and Shorts detection cannot be overridden.
Pricing. Standard at $79 per user a month billed annually or $99 monthly, Professional at $119 or $149 and Advanced at $149 or $199, with a 30-day trial, per Agorapulse's pricing page, checked October 2026. See our Agorapulse alternative page.
Best for teams with a library of evergreen videos they want to re-share on a schedule.
9. Later: best for Shorts-first creators
What it is. A visual planner built around Instagram and TikTok, with YouTube Shorts publishing on all plans.
Standout features. Shorts settings include title, description, visibility, audience (made for kids), tags, category and notify subscribers, according to Later's Shorts help article. Shorts always auto-publish.
Limits. Shorts only, with no long-form videos and no custom Shorts thumbnails, and scheduling works on desktop and iOS. Later's own pages disagree on maximum Shorts length (60 seconds on its YouTube scheduler page, up to 3 minutes in help).
Pricing. Starter at $18.75 a month, Growth at $37.50 and Scale at $82.50, billed yearly, with one YouTube profile per social set and a 14-day trial, per Later's pricing page, checked October 2026. See our Later alternative page.
Best for Instagram and TikTok creators who also want their vertical videos on YouTube Shorts.
10. Buffer: best for a few channels on a small budget
What it is. A simple, per-channel scheduler. Its pricing page lists YouTube (Shorts) with automatic and notification publishing.
Standout features. A clean composer, comment replies and basic analytics, and notification publishing as a fallback for videos too long for automatic publishing.
Limits. Buffer's Shorts help article says long-form YouTube videos are not supported. Fields are title (auto-filled from the first line of the caption) and description; changing the category and custom Shorts thumbnails are not supported. Automatic publishing covers videos up to 3 minutes.
Pricing. Free for up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each; Essentials at $5 per channel a month and Team at $10, with a 14-day trial, checked October 2026. See our Buffer alternative page.
Best for individuals posting a few Shorts a week to two or three channels.
Companion tool: TubeBuddy, for channel optimisation
TubeBuddy is a browser extension for YouTube rather than a cross-network scheduler. Its Legend plan includes bulk processing of existing videos, A/B tests that rotate titles or thumbnails and pick a winner by click-through rate, Scheduled Publish and Scheduled Video Update, per TubeBuddy's pricing page. Pro is $3 a month and Legend $15 a month, with a free plan, checked October 2026. Many creators pair it with a scheduler like Postprism: the scheduler plans and publishes across networks, TubeBuddy tunes the YouTube channel afterwards.

How to choose a YouTube scheduler
By what you post
- Long-form videos. Rule out Shorts-only tools first (Buffer and Later). Then check thumbnails and playlists, because those matter most for longer videos that live in search and suggested results. Postprism, Metricool, SocialPilot and Hootsuite all cover both.
- Shorts. Almost every tool handles these. The difference is what happens to the same video on TikTok. Postprism publishes the original file to each network with its own caption, which is the safe pattern under YouTube's inauthentic content policy. Our YouTube Shorts strategy guide covers what to post.
- A mix. Choose a tool that handles both in one calendar, so a weekly long video and three Shorts sit side by side.
By who is posting
| You are | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A solo creator posting to YouTube only | YouTube Studio, plus TubeBuddy if you want A/B tests | Free, and every Studio feature |
| A creator on YouTube and TikTok | Postprism Solo | Every YouTube field plus 5 other networks for $19 a month |
| A small business | Postprism Solo or Freelancer | Flat price, unlimited posts, optional AI for titles and captions |
| A freelancer or agency | Postprism Freelancer or Agency | Client workspaces and one approval step; SocialPilot if you need white-label reports |
| A large brand team | Hootsuite or Sprout Social | Inbox, listening and reporting around publishing |
| A Shorts-only creator on a tight budget | Buffer free or Later Starter | Low cost for a few channels |
By budget
Per-user pricing (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Agorapulse) adds up fast for teams: three people on Sprout's Standard plan cost $597 a month before add-ons. Per-channel pricing (Buffer) is cheap for two channels and expensive for nine. Flat pricing (Postprism) stays the same as you add networks and posts. Our scheduling tools pricing guide breaks the models down further.
By how much you rely on YouTube Studio
No scheduler replaces YouTube Studio for chapters, end screens, cards or copyright claims. Pick a scheduler that handles the upload and its settings, and keep Studio for the edits that happen after a video is live. If you find yourself opening Studio after every scheduled upload to set the thumbnail or playlist, your scheduler is missing fields.
Worked example: one week of YouTube in a multi-network calendar
Northpath is a small outdoor gear shop with a YouTube channel, a LinkedIn Page and a TikTok. Here is a week planned in Postprism in one sitting.
| Day | YouTube | Same post on other networks |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | A 9-minute review: title "Ultralight tent review after 30 nights", tags for the tent and "ultralight camping", public, made for kids: no, custom thumbnail, playlist "Gear reviews" | A LinkedIn post about how the shop tests gear, linking to the video |
| Wednesday | A 45-second Short: "3 knots every camper needs" | The same original file to TikTok with a casual caption |
| Friday | A 50-second Short: "What fits in a 30-litre pack" | TikTok and X, each with its own caption |
Enhance with AI drafted the YouTube titles and tags and the captions for the other networks, which the team edited. The calendar shows all three days at once, and each network gets a version written for it. Time spent: about 50 minutes for the week, against roughly three hours uploading and configuring each video and post by hand. For more on timing, see the best time to post on YouTube.
Native scheduling vs a scheduler: how the upload actually happens
It helps to know what happens behind the Schedule button, because the two approaches behave differently when something goes wrong.
| Question | YouTube Studio | Postprism |
|---|---|---|
| When is the file uploaded? | Immediately, then kept private until the set time | At the time you set, with every setting applied in the same upload |
| Can you change the video before it goes live? | Yes, edit it in Studio while it is private | Yes, edit or swap the file and settings in the post until it publishes |
| Where do you see the schedule? | A list of scheduled videos in Content | A month, week or day calendar with every network |
| What if a thumbnail or playlist step is refused? | You fix it in Studio | The video stays published and the post shows a warning explaining why |
| Who can approve it first? | Anyone with channel access publishes directly | An Owner or Admin can approve it first, on Freelancer and Agency |
Studio's approach is useful when you want YouTube to finish processing high-resolution versions well before release. Postprism's approach keeps the video, its settings and its sibling posts on other networks together in one place until the moment they publish, which is what makes a cross-network calendar reliable. Many creators use both: Studio for a big premiere, Postprism for the weekly rhythm of videos and Shorts.
How to tell whether your YouTube schedule is working
A schedule is only useful if it produces results. Review these per video after two to four weeks, and compare videos published at different times and days.
| Metric | What it tells you | Signal that something needs to change |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions click-through rate | Whether the title and thumbnail earn the click | Many impressions, few clicks: rework the thumbnail and title |
| Average view duration | Whether the video keeps its promise | A steep drop in the first 30 seconds: tighten the opening |
| Views in the first 48 hours | Whether the publish time suits your audience | Consistently slow starts: move uploads closer to when viewers are online |
| Subscribers gained per video | Whether a topic builds the channel | Views without subscribers: add a reason to come back |
| Shorts swipe-away and views | Whether the hook works in the feed | Low views on most Shorts: test a stronger first second |
Keep the schedule steady while you test one thing at a time, such as the day or the thumbnail style, so you know what caused a change. The content calendar entry in our glossary explains how to plan a cadence you can sustain, and the social media scheduler entry covers the basics.
YouTube scheduling mistakes to avoid
- Scheduling without a made-for-kids answer. Fix: set it on every upload; Postprism will not schedule a YouTube post without it.
- Leaving the title to chance. Some tools fill the title from the first line of your caption. Fix: write a searchable title of up to 100 characters for each video.
- Skipping tags because "they don't matter". Tags help with misspellings and related searches. Fix: add a few accurate tags within the 500-character budget.
- Uploading a downloaded TikTok as a Short. Fix: upload the original, watermark-free file.
- Forgetting the playlist. Playlists drive session watch time. Fix: choose the playlist at scheduling time.
- Using a thumbnail that fails YouTube's checks. Fix: 16:9, at least 640 px wide, JPG or PNG, on a verified channel. Our YouTube aspect ratios guide lists the sizes.
- Not disclosing realistic AI content. Fix: turn on the altered or synthetic content setting when it applies.
- Pasting the YouTube description everywhere. Fix: write a short caption for TikTok and Instagram and a LinkedIn version that tells the story behind the video.
- Posting at random times. Fix: check when your viewers are active in YouTube Analytics and schedule a little before that.
- Measuring only views. Fix: track watch time, click-through rate and subscribers gained per video. Our YouTube engagement calculator helps compare videos.

The verdict
Postprism is the best YouTube scheduler for anyone running YouTube alongside other networks: it uploads long videos and Shorts at the time you set with title, tags, privacy, category, made for kids, synthetic media, thumbnail and playlist applied, and schedules the matching TikTok, LinkedIn, X and other posts from the same calendar, from $19 a month with unlimited posts. YouTube Studio is the right free choice for YouTube alone. Metricool is the best budget pick with full YouTube fields, SocialPilot suits agencies, and Hootsuite and Sprout Social suit enterprise teams. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best YouTube scheduler?
Postprism, for most creators and teams, because it uploads videos and Shorts with every key setting applied (title, tags, privacy, category, made for kids, thumbnail and playlist) and schedules matching posts on 5 other networks from one calendar, from $19 a month. For YouTube alone, YouTube Studio's free scheduler works well.
Can you schedule YouTube videos for free?
Yes. YouTube Studio lets you schedule any upload for free by choosing Schedule on the visibility step. Buffer's free plan schedules Shorts on up to 3 channels, and Metricool's free plan covers one brand with 20 posts a month. Postprism has a 7-day free trial.
Can I schedule YouTube Shorts with a scheduler?
Yes. Upload a vertical video of up to 3 minutes and YouTube shows it as a Short. Postprism, Metricool, SocialPilot, Vista Social, Hootsuite, Agorapulse, Later and Buffer all schedule Shorts. Several tools do not allow custom Shorts thumbnails.
Does Buffer support long YouTube videos?
No. Buffer's help centre says it does not support long-form YouTube videos at this time and publishes Shorts only, with automatic publishing for videos up to 3 minutes. Later is also limited to Shorts.
Does scheduling a video through a third-party tool hurt its reach?
YouTube does not say it ranks videos differently by upload method. Tools like Postprism upload through YouTube's official Data API. What affects reach is the title, thumbnail, watch time and how well the video answers what viewers searched for.
Can a scheduler set a custom thumbnail and playlist?
Many can. Postprism converts your thumbnail to JPEG or PNG under 2 MB, sets it after the upload and adds the video to the playlist you chose. Custom thumbnails require a verified YouTube channel, whichever tool you use.
How much does a YouTube scheduler cost?
Prices checked in October 2026 range from free (YouTube Studio, Buffer's free plan) to $5 per channel (Buffer Essentials), $19 a month for 6 networks (Postprism Solo), about $20 a month (Metricool Starter, annual) and $79 to $399 per user (Sprout Social, Agorapulse, Hootsuite).
Can an AI assistant schedule YouTube videos for me?
Yes, with Postprism. Its MCP server, included on every plan, lets assistants like Claude and ChatGPT create scheduled YouTube posts with title, tags, privacy, made for kids, category, synthetic media, playlist and thumbnail, using the same limits as the composer. See AI agents.
