What is the best social media tool for a small business in 2026? Postprism is the best social media tool for most small businesses, because $19 a month covers all 6 major networks with unlimited posts, and one click of Enhance with AI turns a single update into a version written for each network. You plan a week in one sitting and the calendar publishes it.
The rest of the shortlist depends on what kind of business you run. Meta Business Suite is the free starting point if you only post to Facebook and Instagram. Buffer suits owners with two or three channels and a tiny budget. Metricool is for owners who want detailed analytics, Later for Instagram-first shops, and Hootsuite for growing businesses that already have a marketing team. Every competitor price below was checked on the vendor's own site in October 2026 and is linked to the source.
Key findings
- Social media works for small businesses, but keeping up is hard. In Verizon's 2025 State of Small Business survey of 600 US businesses, 76% said social media positively impacts their business, while 54% said they struggle to keep online content fresh. The bottleneck is time, not belief.
- Your customers are spread across several networks. Pew Research's 2025 survey found that 84% of US adults use YouTube, 71% Facebook, 50% Instagram, 37% Pinterest and 32% TikTok. Most small businesses need three or more networks to reach the same people they serve in person.
- TikTok is no longer optional for many owners. The same Verizon survey reports that 58% of small and medium-sized businesses are on TikTok, and Facebook remains the most popular platform among them.
- Pricing models decide your real cost. Buffer charges per channel, Hootsuite's paid plans start at $99 a month, Later caps Starter at 30 posts per profile a month, and Postprism is a flat $19 a month for 6 networks with unlimited posts.
- AI has become the time saver that matters. Verizon found 28% of small businesses already use AI for marketing and social media. The tools that save the most hours are the ones that write each network's version for you, not just schedule what you wrote.
- Free tools have real limits. Buffer's free plan allows 10 scheduled posts per channel, Metricool's free plan excludes LinkedIn and X, and Publer's free plan excludes X. Meta Business Suite is free but reaches only Facebook and Instagram.

If you want a deeper look at enterprise suites, our ranking of the best social media management tools covers them, and the guide to the best free social media schedulers goes further into free plans. This page focuses on what a small business owner, often posting alone, actually needs.
What a small business needs from a social media tool
A small business is not a smaller agency. The owner, a manager or one part-time helper usually does the posting, between serving customers, ordering stock and answering email. That changes what a good tool looks like. Features built for 20-person social teams, such as message routing, listening dashboards and multi-level approval chains, add cost and complexity without saving the owner any time.
Here is what does matter, in rough order of importance.
- Time saved per week. The test is simple: how long does it take to get a week of posts onto every network you use? A tool that lets you write once and get a proper version for each network saves far more time than one that only schedules.
- Predictable cost. Small businesses need a price that does not jump when they add TikTok or Pinterest. Per-channel and per-user pricing can double the bill as you grow.
- The networks your customers use. A café needs Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. A B2B consultancy needs LinkedIn. A home decor shop needs Pinterest. Check that the tool covers all of yours, including Threads and Bluesky if your audience has moved there.
- Help with what to say. Most owners know their business but not how a LinkedIn post differs from a TikTok caption. Templates, AI drafts and a content plan remove the blank-page problem.
- A calendar you can read at a glance. Seeing two weeks ahead, with gaps visible, is what keeps posting consistent.
- Simple analytics. Reach, engagement and which posts worked. You do not need a data warehouse.
- Room to add help later. When you hire a part-timer or bring in a freelancer, you want to add them without changing tools.
How we evaluated these tools
We scored each tool on six criteria weighted for a business where one or two people handle social media part time.
| Criterion | Weight | What we looked for |
|---|---|---|
| Time to publish a week of posts | 30% | Can one idea become a version for each network quickly, ideally with AI drafting the versions? |
| Cost at 4 to 7 channels | 25% | The monthly bill for a typical small business setup, not just the entry price |
| Network coverage | 15% | Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, X, Threads and Bluesky |
| Ease of use | 15% | Can an owner with no marketing background use it in the first session? |
| Analytics | 10% | Clear numbers for reach, engagement and top posts per network |
| Room to grow | 5% | Team members, approvals and extra brands when the business needs them |
Prices and plan limits come from each vendor's own pricing page or help center, checked in October 2026. Where a vendor did not publish a number, we say so rather than quote a third-party estimate. Postprism facts come from our own product.
The 11 best social media tools for small business, ranked
1. Postprism: best overall social media tool for small business
What it is. Postprism is a social media scheduler that publishes to 6 networks from one content calendar: LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest. It is built for people who post between other work, which describes almost every small business owner.
Why it ranks first. Most small business owners do not lack ideas. They lack the time to turn "we have a new seasonal menu" into a TikTok caption that sounds human, a short X post and a LinkedIn update for catering clients. In Postprism you write the update once, select your networks and click Enhance with AI. One request returns a version for every selected network, following style guidelines for LinkedIn, X, TikTok and YouTube. You edit anything you like, then schedule all of them in one step.
Standout features for a small business.
- Hashtags handled per network. The AI follows each network's norms: 2 to 5 professional hashtags on LinkedIn, 1 or 2 optional ones on X, 3 to 5 on TikTok, and the tags field rather than hashtags on YouTube.
- Your business, not generic copy. AI drafts use your Brand Identity: business name, industry, a default tone (Professional, Casual, Friendly, Authoritative, Playful, Inspirational or Educational), your values, target audience and key messaging. See brand voice AI.
- A plan for the month. "Generate content plan" builds a 4-week plan, and 24 content templates in 6 categories cover promotions, announcements, tips and behind-the-scenes posts.
- A calendar you can actually read. Month, week and day views with a platform filter, plus a kanban board (Drafts, Scheduled, Published) and a searchable table view. See the content calendar.
- Batch a month at once. Bulk Upload takes a CSV of up to 200 rows, and the AI scheduling assistant reads XLSX and JSON files, including from Google Drive or Dropbox.
- Your photos where you keep them. A media library with tags and search, plus import from Google Drive, Dropbox and Canva straight into the composer.
- Analytics on four networks. Impressions, reach, clicks, engagement rate, top posts and current follower counts for X, YouTube, LinkedIn Pages and TikTok, over 30, 60 or 90 days. See analytics.
- Character limits you can see. Text over a network's limit turns red before you schedule, so nothing gets cut off unexpectedly.
- Unlimited posts on every plan. Posting more never raises the bill.
What each network gets. TikTok video and photo posts, YouTube videos with title, tags, privacy, playlist and thumbnail, LinkedIn text, image or video posts to a profile or Company Page, image Pins on Pinterest, posts with up to 4 images on X and text posts on Bluesky.
Room to grow. When you bring in help, the Freelancer plan adds 3 team members, 3 workspaces and an approval step so an Owner or Admin signs off before anything publishes. Roles are Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer. If you use an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT, Postprism's MCP server lets it draft and schedule posts for you on every plan.
Pricing. Solo is $19 a month ($14 billed annually) with 150 AI adaptations a month, Freelancer $49 ($36) with 500, and Agency $99 ($75) with 2,000. Every plan includes all 6 networks, unlimited posts and a 7-day free trial. Our Postprism for small business page shows how a typical owner sets it up.
Who it is for. Shops, cafés, salons, studios, consultancies and local service businesses that post to three or more networks and want each post to read as if it were written for that network, without paying per channel.
Plan a Month of Posts in One Afternoon
Write one update, get a version for each of 6 networks, and schedule them all from one calendar. Try every feature free for 7 days.
2. Buffer: best for two or three channels on a tight budget
What it is. Buffer is one of the best-known simple schedulers. It has a clean composer, a free plan and per-channel pricing.
Standout features. The free plan covers up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel and includes the AI Assistant, a community inbox and 30 days of analytics history. Essentials adds unlimited scheduled posts, first-comment scheduling, a hashtag manager, unlimited analytics history and custom UTM parameters. Team adds unlimited team members, approval workflows and branded reports.
Limits for a small business. Pricing is per channel, so a business on six networks pays six times the channel rate, and approvals require the Team plan. Each network's version is written by hand unless you prompt the AI Assistant per post.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Free for up to 3 channels; Essentials $5 per channel a month and Team $10 per channel a month, with a 14-day trial on paid plans. Buffer's pricing page says channels beyond 10 cost less each. See our Buffer alternative comparison.
Who it is for. A sole trader on two or three networks who wants a familiar, simple tool and is happy to write each version personally.
3. Meta Business Suite: best free option for Facebook and Instagram only
What it is. Meta's own free tool for managing Facebook Pages and Instagram business accounts. Buffer's guide to the product confirms that Meta Business Suite is free to use.
Standout features. Scheduling for posts, stories and Reels across Facebook and Instagram, a Planner calendar, a unified inbox for messages and comments from Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, automated replies for common questions such as opening hours, and insights on reach, engagement and follower growth. Meta describes it as a "one-stop shop" for marketing and advertising on its apps.
Limits for a small business. It covers only Meta's networks. TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest and X need another tool, so many owners end up running Meta Business Suite plus a second scheduler. There is no AI that writes a separate version per network, because there is only one family of networks.
Pricing. Free.
Who it is for. A business whose customers are entirely on Facebook and Instagram, such as a neighbourhood restaurant or a salon that has not yet started on TikTok. Once you add a third network, a multi-network tool saves more time than it costs.
4. Metricool: best for owners who want analytics and competitor tracking
What it is. A planner with strong analytics, priced by the number of brands rather than by channel.
Standout features. According to Metricool's pricing page, the free plan includes an AI assistant, an MCP connection and analysis of 5 competitor profiles. Starter adds unlimited posts, unlimited analytics history, analysis of up to 100 competitors, Google Drive and Canva integration, PDF and PowerPoint reports and multiple link-in-bio pages. Advanced adds team management and a post approval system.
Limits for a small business. The free plan allows 20 posts a month and 30 days of analytics, and excludes LinkedIn and X. AI credits are counted per brand (20 a month on Starter), and the pricing page notes that X requires an add-on on paid plans. Tailoring each network's version is mostly manual.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Free for one brand; Starter from $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly; Advanced from $53 a month billed annually. Compare in our Metricool alternative page.
Who it is for. An owner who enjoys numbers, wants to benchmark against local competitors and will spend time in reports each month.
5. Later: best for Instagram-first shops and visual brands
What it is. A visual planner that grew up on Instagram, with a drag-and-drop grid preview and link-in-bio pages.
Standout features. Later's pricing page lists Instagram Reels audio, best time to post for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and Link in Bio on Starter. Growth adds a social inbox, collaboration and approvals, and UGC collection. Every plan has a 14-day trial.
Limits for a small business. Starter allows 30 posts per profile a month, 1 user and 5 AI credits a month. Growth raises that to 180 posts per profile and 50 AI credits. Unlimited posting only comes with Scale.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Starter $18.75 a month, Growth $37.50 and Scale $82.50, all billed yearly. One social set covers 8 profiles. See our Later alternative page.
Who it is for. A boutique, florist or product brand whose sales start on Instagram and who wants to plan the look of the grid. If you post more than once a day or rely on LinkedIn, the post caps become the deciding factor.
6. SocialBee: best for recycling evergreen content by category
What it is. A scheduler built around content categories, so you can keep a library of evergreen posts (tips, testimonials, product highlights) and rotate them.
Standout features. SocialBee's pricing page lists unlimited AI content generation and an AI Copilot on every plan, with a 14-day free trial.
Limits for a small business. Bootstrap covers 5 social profiles and Accelerate 10, each with one user and one workspace. A second person needs the Pro plan at $99 a month.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Bootstrap $29 a month ($24 billed annually), Accelerate $49 ($40) and Pro $99 ($82). Compare on our SocialBee alternative page.
Who it is for. A service business with a stable set of messages, such as an accountant or a gym, that wants the same evergreen posts to cycle without rewriting them.
7. Publer: best for businesses with very few accounts
What it is. A scheduler priced by the number of social accounts and team members, with a forever-free plan.
Standout features. Publer's help center says the free plan covers 3 social accounts with up to 10 scheduled posts at a time per account and 25 saved drafts. Paid plans are priced per account, and every tenth account or member is free.
Limits for a small business. The free plan excludes X, and the bill rises with each account and team member you add. Yearly billing saves 20%.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Professional starts at $5 a month for one social account and Business at $10 a month, with the total adjusted for each extra account and member. See our Publer alternative comparison.
Who it is for. A very small business with one or two accounts that wants the lowest possible starting price and expects to stay that size.
8. Canva: best for owners who design every post in Canva
What it is. The design tool most small businesses already use, with a Content Planner that schedules finished designs to social networks.
Standout features. Canva's own Content Planner page describes it as a way to "create, plan and schedule social media" from inside Canva, and it is part of the Canva Pro bundle. You design and schedule in one place, with brand kits and templates.
Limits for a small business. Canva's help center notes that each design is scheduled to one platform at a time, so a post for four networks is four separate scheduling steps, and the caption for each network is written by hand. Analytics are basic compared with a dedicated scheduler.
Pricing. Scheduling comes with Canva Pro and higher plans. Canva's pricing varies by region and has changed during 2026, so check canva.com/pricing for the current figure. Postprism imports Canva designs straight into the composer, so many owners design in Canva and publish everywhere from Postprism.
Who it is for. An owner who posts a few designed graphics a week to one or two networks and wants to stay inside a single app.
9. Zoho Social: best for businesses already running on Zoho
What it is. The social media tool in Zoho's business software suite, priced per brand.
Standout features. Zoho Social's pricing page lists a free plan for one brand with core publishing and scheduling, a link shortener and an image editor. Professional adds bulk scheduling, repeat posting, a monitoring dashboard and a media library. Premium adds content approvals, custom reports and integrations with Zoho CRM and Zoho Desk.
Limits for a small business. Features are spread across five tiers, so the plan you need depends on which one you want most. Prices are shown in local currency based on your region, and the page did not display a US price when we checked.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Free plan available; paid plans are shown by region on the pricing page, with up to 33% off for yearly billing.
Who it is for. A business that already runs sales and support in Zoho and wants social leads to flow into the same CRM.
10. Vista Social: best for local businesses that live on reviews
What it is. An all-in-one social tool with publishing, an inbox, reporting and review monitoring.
Standout features. Vista Social's pricing page lists review monitoring for Facebook and Google Business on Professional, and adds Yelp, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, Trustpilot and the app stores on Advanced. Professional includes 15 profiles and 1,000 AI credits a month.
Limits for a small business. The entry plan costs about five times a simple scheduler, and the pricing page lists a small number of users per plan (its table and FAQ disagree on the exact count, so confirm with Vista Social).
Pricing (checked October 2026). Professional $99 a month ($950 a year), Advanced $199 and Scale $449, with a 14-day trial.
Who it is for. A restaurant, hotel or clinic where reviews on Google, Yelp or TripAdvisor drive bookings and someone has time to respond to them every day.
11. Hootsuite: best for growing businesses with a marketing team
What it is. The long-established enterprise suite, with publishing, an inbox, listening and its "Wisdom" AI assistant on every plan.
Standout features. Hootsuite's plans page lists 10 social accounts on Standard and unlimited accounts from Professional, inbox automation and AI smart replies on Professional, and message routing plus content approvals on Advanced. Every paid plan has a 14-day trial.
Limits for a small business. The price is high for a business where one person posts part time, and trial accounts have daily posting limits and no bulk scheduling. Approvals start on Advanced.
Pricing (checked October 2026). Paid plans start at $99 a month for Standard, $199 for Professional and up to $399 for Advanced, per the plans page FAQ. See our Hootsuite alternative comparison.
Who it is for. A business that has grown to a marketing team of several people, where inbox routing and listening are worth the extra cost.
Small business social media tools compared feature by feature
| Tool | Free option | AI writes a version per network | Posting limits | Approvals | Users on entry plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Postprism | 7-day free trial | Yes, one click for every selected network | Unlimited posts on every plan | Freelancer and Agency | 1 (3 on Freelancer, 10 on Agency) |
| Buffer | Free plan, 3 channels | AI Assistant, prompted per post | 10 per channel on Free; unlimited on paid | Team plan | 1 (unlimited on Team) |
| Meta Business Suite | Free | No | Not stated | Not stated | Page roles |
| Metricool | Free plan, 1 brand | AI credits per brand | 20 a month on Free; unlimited on paid | Advanced | Check in trial |
| Later | 14-day trial | AI credits (5 a month on Starter) | 30 per profile a month on Starter | Growth | 1 |
| SocialBee | 14-day trial | Unlimited AI generation | Not stated | Check in trial | 1 per workspace |
| Publer | Free plan, 3 accounts | Check in trial | 10 scheduled per account on Free | Check in trial | 1 on Free |
| Canva | Scheduling on Pro | No, one platform per design | Not stated | On team plans | 1 on Pro |
| Zoho Social | Free plan, 1 brand | AI credits per plan | Not stated | Premium | 1 (3 on Premium) |
| Vista Social | 14-day trial | 1,000 AI credits a month | Not stated | Check in trial | 2 to 3 |
| Hootsuite | 14-day trial | Wisdom AI on every plan | Not stated on paid plans | Advanced | 1+ per user priced |
"Check in trial" and "Not stated" mean the vendor page we read did not say. Those are the exact questions to test in a free trial: put one real post through and look at what each network receives.
What it really costs: three small business setups
Entry prices hide how pricing models behave as you add networks. Here is roughly what each tool costs per month for three common setups, using the prices above. Annual billing lowers most of these figures.
| Tool | Starter: TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube (3 channels) | Shop: plus Pinterest and X (5 channels) | Full mix: 6 channels incl. Bluesky |
|---|---|---|---|
| Postprism Solo | $19 | $19 | $19 |
| Buffer Essentials | About $15 | About $25 | About $30 |
| Metricool Starter | From $20 to $25 | From $20 to $25, plus the X add-on | From $20 to $25, plus the X add-on |
| Later Starter | $18.75 (30 posts per profile) | $18.75, but X needs another tool | $18.75, but X and Bluesky need another tool |
| SocialBee | $29 Bootstrap | $29 Bootstrap | $49 Accelerate |
| Hootsuite Standard | From $99 | From $99 | From $99 |
Two things stand out. First, flat pricing wins as soon as you post to more than three or four networks. Second, the cheapest tool on paper is not the cheapest in practice if you spend an extra two hours a week writing each network's version by hand. At even $25 an hour of your own time, two hours a week is over $200 a month. Our breakdown of what social media management costs goes deeper into the trade-off between tools, freelancers and agencies.
How to choose: by business type
The right tool depends more on where your customers are than on the length of a feature list. Start with the networks, then the budget, then the features.
Restaurants, cafés and bars
Instagram and Facebook carry most of the weight, with TikTok for kitchen and behind-the-bar video. You need fast posting of daily specials and event nights. Postprism turns one note ("Friday: live jazz and half-price oysters from 6pm") into a TikTok caption for the video and a short X post with the booking link. If you only use Facebook and Instagram, Meta Business Suite is a free start. See social media for restaurants.
Retail and e-commerce
Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and Facebook. Pinterest behaves like a search engine, so pins need keyword-rich titles, while TikTok needs the product in use in the first seconds. A tool with per-network versions matters here. Postprism publishes image Pins to Pinterest and video to TikTok from the same post. See social media for e-commerce and the Pinterest scheduler.
Local services: salons, gyms, clinics, trades
Facebook and Instagram for the community, Google reviews for trust, and increasingly TikTok for before-and-after content. Consistency matters more than volume. A monthly content plan and templates remove the guesswork. If reviews drive your bookings and you have time to answer them daily, Vista Social's review monitoring is worth a look.
B2B and professional services
LinkedIn first, often with X, Threads or Bluesky for conversation and YouTube for explainer videos. The LinkedIn post needs a story and a point of view; the short networks need one sharp idea. Postprism publishes to both personal profiles and Company Pages on LinkedIn, and the AI writes the long and short versions from one idea. See LinkedIn scheduler and our guide to growing LinkedIn followers.
Real estate
Listings to Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, with a short video tour uploaded to each. Captions should name the neighbourhood and include viewing details. See social media for real estate.
Solo founders and side businesses
If you are the business, the tool must fit into a few hours a week. Postprism Solo at $19 a month covers every network you are likely to need. Our page for solo founders shows how to build a personal and company presence together.
How to choose: by budget
| Monthly budget | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| $0 | Meta Business Suite, or Buffer Free | Free for Facebook and Instagram, or for up to 3 channels with 10 queued posts each |
| Under $20 | Postprism Solo ($19, or $14 billed annually) | All 6 networks, unlimited posts and AI versions per network for less than most per-channel plans at four channels |
| $20 to $50 | Postprism Freelancer ($49) if you have a helper; Metricool or SocialBee for specific needs | Adds 3 team members, 3 workspaces and an approval step |
| $50 to $100 | Postprism Agency ($99) for several brands; Vista Social for review management | 10 workspaces, 10 members, 2,000 AI adaptations and CSV export of analytics |
| $100 and up | Hootsuite | When a team needs inbox routing and listening |
Worked example: one week for a neighbourhood bakery
Hearth and Crumb is a two-person bakery that posts to TikTok, Pinterest and X. The owner spends Sunday evening planning the week in Postprism. Here is the result.
| Day | Idea written once | What each network gets |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | New autumn loaf: pumpkin and walnut sourdough, from Wednesday | X: a short post with opening hours and a pre-order link. Pinterest: an image Pin titled "Pumpkin walnut sourdough, autumn bake". |
| Tuesday | Behind the scenes: 4am shaping the dough | TikTok: a 20-second video with a casual caption and 4 hashtags. |
| Wednesday | Launch day for the autumn loaf | X: a launch post with the price and "first 30 loaves get a free jam". TikTok: the first loaf out of the oven. |
| Thursday | Tip: how to store sourdough so it stays fresh | X: the tip as plain text with a question for customers. Pinterest: a Pin linking to the bakery's storage guide. |
| Friday | Weekend opening hours and a staff spotlight | X: hours plus a photo. TikTok: a 15-second "meet the baker". |
| Saturday | Customer photo of the autumn loaf (with permission) | X: a thank-you post crediting the customer. |
The owner writes six short ideas, clicks Enhance with AI on each to get the network versions, swaps in her own photos from the media library, checks the hashtag counts and schedules everything. Total time: about 50 minutes on Sunday, compared with posting by hand across three apps every day of the week. The following Sunday she checks analytics to see which posts earned the most reach and saves, and plans more of those. The content calendar guide walks through the same routine.
Get Your Week Scheduled Tonight
Postprism covers TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn and 3 more networks from $19 a month, with unlimited posts.
Free tools to use alongside any scheduler
You do not need to pay for every task. These free Postprism tools run in your browser with no signup:
- Instagram caption generator for caption ideas in five tones when you are stuck.
- Instagram hashtag generator and TikTok hashtag generator for a relevant set of tags for your niche.
- Social media image resizer to fit one photo to every network's aspect ratio.
- Social media character counter to check a post against each network's character limit.
- UTM builder to tag links so you can see which posts send website visitors, using UTM parameters.
Common mistakes small businesses make when choosing a tool
- Buying for features you will never use. Listening, routing and multi-brand dashboards are built for teams. Pay for the hours saved, not the feature count.
- Comparing entry prices, not your real setup. Price the tool at the number of networks you will use in six months, not today.
- Posting the same caption everywhere. A Facebook post that says "link in bio" or a LinkedIn post with 25 hashtags tells customers you did not write it for them. Use per-network versions. Our guide on writing for multiple platforms shows the differences.
- Ignoring post caps. A limit of 30 posts per profile a month sounds generous until you run a two-week promotion.
- Choosing a free tool that leaves out a network. If your customers are on TikTok or LinkedIn, a free plan that excludes them costs you reach.
- Not planning ahead. The tool only helps if you sit down once a week. Block the time in your diary. See how to stay consistent on social media.
- Never looking at the numbers. Ten minutes a week on engagement rate and reach tells you what to post more of.
- Posting too much, then nothing. Three good posts a week for six months beats daily posting for one month. Our guide on how often to post on social media gives a sensible rhythm per network.
Setting up your small business social media tool, step by step
- List your networks. Three to five where your customers already spend time. Start there, not with every network.
- Fill in your brand details. In Postprism, the Brand Identity (name, industry, tone, values, audience, key messaging) shapes every AI draft, so ten minutes here pays back every week.
- Connect your accounts. TikTok, LinkedIn profile or Page, and any others.
- Generate a content plan. Use "Generate content plan" for a 4-week outline, or start from a template.
- Write a week of ideas. One or two sentences each. Click Enhance with AI to get every network's version and edit anything that does not sound like you.
- Add your own photos and videos. Real photos of your shop, team and products beat stock images. Import from Google Drive, Dropbox or Canva.
- Schedule and set the time zone. Each post carries its own time zone, which helps if you serve customers in more than one region.
- Review weekly. Check which posts earned the most reach and engagement, and plan more like them. See our guide to the best time to post.
The verdict
Postprism is the best social media tool for small businesses because it solves the real problem, which is time: one idea becomes a version for each of 6 networks in one click, scheduled from one calendar, with unlimited posts for $19 a month. Meta Business Suite is a sensible free start if you post only to Facebook and Instagram. Buffer suits a sole trader on two or three channels, Metricool an owner who wants deep analytics, and Later an Instagram-first shop. Hootsuite fits a business that has grown into a full marketing team. For agencies managing several clients, see our ranking of the best social media tools for agencies, and for broader marketing software see the best marketing tools for small business.

Most small businesses need to spend between $0 and $50 a month. Postprism Solo costs $19 a month, or $14 billed annually, for all 6 networks. Paying more makes sense when you add team members or need approvals, which Postprism includes from the $49 Freelancer plan.
Is Meta Business Suite enough for a small business?
It is enough if all your customers are on Facebook and Instagram. It is free and includes scheduling, an inbox and insights for those two networks. Once you add TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest or YouTube, you need a second tool, and a multi-network scheduler like Postprism replaces the juggling.
Is Buffer good for small businesses?
Buffer is a good, simple choice for two or three channels. Its per-channel pricing ($5 per channel a month on Essentials, checked October 2026) becomes more expensive than flat-priced tools at four or more channels, and each network's version is written by hand or prompted from the AI Assistant per post.
Which social media platforms should a small business use?
Choose the networks where your customers already are. Pew Research found 84% of US adults use YouTube, 71% Facebook and 50% Instagram in 2025. Consumer businesses usually start with Facebook and Instagram and add TikTok; B2B businesses start with LinkedIn.
Can AI write social media posts for my small business?
Yes. In Postprism, Enhance with AI drafts a version of your update for every selected network using your Brand Identity, with each network's style and hashtag norms. You review and edit every version before it is scheduled. Solo includes 150 AI adaptations a month.
How much time does a social media scheduler save a small business?
It depends on how many networks you use. Posting by hand to four networks every day can take several hours a week. Batching a week of posts in one session, with AI drafting each network's version, typically brings that down to about an hour.
Does Hootsuite work for small businesses?
Hootsuite works for small businesses with a marketing team and budget. Paid plans start at $99 a month for Standard and rise to $399 for Advanced, per its plans page in October 2026. For an owner posting part time, a simpler tool covers the same networks for a fraction of the cost.
