Later vs Planoly, in short: which should you choose? Choose Later if you want Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat planning with a social inbox, content approvals, Best Time to Post and up to two years of Instagram analytics history, and you can live without X. Choose Planoly if you want the lower entry price ($14 a month billed annually), unlimited posts on every paid plan, a link in bio with a Creator Store, Instagram DM automations and an MCP connection for your AI assistant. If you post one brand to many networks, including X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and full-length YouTube, Postprism is the better overall pick: $19 a month flat for all 6 networks, unlimited posts, a separate AI-written version for every network in one request, and an MCP server on every plan.

Later and Planoly grew up solving the same problem: making an Instagram feed look planned rather than improvised. Both still lead with a visual grid, both now publish to most major networks, and both price by "sets" of social accounts rather than by individual channel. The differences sit in the details: how many posts each plan allows, whether X is supported at all, who can approve a post, how far back the analytics go, and whether an AI agent can do the scheduling for you. This comparison works through those details using each vendor's own pricing and help pages, all checked in October 2026, and links to every source so you can check them yourself.

Key findings

  • Planoly is cheaper at the entry level. Planoly Starter is $14 a month billed annually ($16 monthly). Later Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly.
  • Planoly has no post caps on paid plans; Later does. Planoly's paid plans include unlimited posts. Later allows 30 posts per profile a month on Starter, 180 on Growth and unlimited only on Scale.
  • Neither auto-posts to X. Later's supported networks do not include X at all. Planoly connects X in reminder-only mode: it notifies you at the scheduled time and you publish by hand.
  • Later has approvals; Planoly's help center describes none. Later lists content approvals on Growth and Scale. Planoly team members can create and schedule posts directly.
  • Planoly has an MCP server; Later does not list one. The Planoly MCP connects Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Gemini CLI. Later's pricing and scheduler pages mention no MCP server or public API.
  • Later keeps analytics longer. Later stores up to 3 months of history on Starter, 1 year on Growth and 2 years on Scale. Planoly analytics offers 7, 30 or 90-day views.
  • Postprism publishes to all 6 of its networks, X and Bluesky included, for $19 a month flat, with unlimited posts on every plan and approvals from $49.

Pricing compared (checked October 2026)

Both tools sell plans built around a bundle of accounts. Later calls the bundle a Social Set: one profile each on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Snapchat. Planoly's help center calls it a workspace, and its pricing page calls it a social set. In both cases, one set is roughly one brand.

Later pricing (October 2026)

Later's pricing page shows prices billed yearly, in US dollars, with taxes extra. A monthly billing toggle exists, but the page text does not state the monthly rates, so we only quote the yearly figures.

Later planPrice (billed yearly)Social SetsPosts per profile a monthUsersAI credits a monthAnalytics history
Starter$18.75/month1 (8 profiles)3015Up to 3 months
Growth$37.50/month2 (16 profiles)180250Up to 1 year
Scale$82.50/month6 (48 profiles)Unlimited4100Up to 2 years

On Growth and Scale you can add Social Sets at $11.25 a month each, users at $3.75 a month each and 100 more AI credits for $3.75 a month. Starter has no add-ons. Content approvals and the Social Inbox start on Growth. Every plan has a 14-day free trial.

Planoly pricing (October 2026)

Planoly's paid plan guide gives both monthly and annual prices. Its pricing page labels the top plan Pro; the help center calls it Professional.

Planoly planBilled monthlyBilled annuallyWorkspacesUsersExtra workspaceExtra user
Starter$16/month$14/month11Not availableNot available
Growth$28/month$24/month22$10/month$5/month
Pro (Professional)$55/month$47/month66$8/month$3/month

Every Planoly paid plan includes unlimited posts, AI caption writing, analytics, team collaboration, the Planoly MCP, Link in Bio and the Creator Store for selling digital products and merch. New users get a 14-day free trial, and the mobile app has a free plan with 10 posts a month that resets on the first of each month.

What each tool costs at real sizes

Plan tables are easier to read as bills. The scenarios below use the cheapest plan that covers the setup, with add-ons where needed. Later is at its yearly price because that is the only price it publishes; Planoly is shown both ways.

SetupPostprismLater (billed yearly)Planoly
1 brand, 1 person$19 (Solo), all 6 networks, unlimited posts$18.75 (Starter), 30 posts per profile a month, no X$14 annually or $16 monthly (Starter), X reminder-only
1 brand, 2 people, posts need sign-off$49 (Freelancer), approvals included$37.50 (Growth), approvals included$24 annually or $28 monthly (Growth), no approval step described
3 brands, 3 people$49 (Freelancer), approvals included$52.50 (Growth + 1 set + 1 user)$39 annually or $43 monthly (Growth + 1 workspace + 1 user)
10 brands, 10 people$99 (Agency), approvals and analytics CSV export$150 (Scale + 4 sets + 6 users)$91 annually or $99 monthly (Pro + 4 workspaces + 4 users)

Reading the bill plainly: Planoly is the cheapest of the three for one person on one brand, and it stays cheaper than Later at every size we checked. Later costs the most once you need more sets or seats, because its add-ons are $11.25 per set. Postprism is a flat price for a set number of workspaces and members, so it sits close to Planoly at three brands while including an approval step, and matches Planoly's monthly price at ten brands and ten people while adding approvals, X and Bluesky publishing and a REST API.

Later vs Planoly feature by feature

Publishing and networks

Later supports Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat, according to its pricing page, and its scheduler page names YouTube Shorts as the YouTube format. It schedules Instagram posts, Stories and Reels, Facebook posts and Reels, and TikTok posts, and auto-publishes to Instagram business and creator accounts, TikTok and Facebook. Its visual planner lets you drag, drop and rearrange posts until the feed looks right. X is not on Later's list.

Planoly lists eight platforms on its connect your accounts guide. Seven auto-post: Instagram (posts, carousels, Reels and Stories), Facebook Pages (posts, Reels and Stories), TikTok (videos and photo carousels), LinkedIn (a personal profile or a Company Page), Pinterest (Pins), YouTube (videos and Shorts) and Threads. X is reminder-only: Planoly sends a notification at the scheduled time and you publish it yourself. Planoly does not list Bluesky.

For Instagram detail, Planoly has the edge. Its product guide describes a grid view for arranging upcoming posts, a refresh that pulls your latest published posts into the preview, auto-posted first comments and Instagram Shopping product tags. Later's advantage is Snapchat, which Planoly does not support.

Bulk scheduling is thin on both. Planoly's bulk create turns uploaded media into rows, saves at most 20 rows at a time, and only ever saves drafts, so each one still has to be opened and scheduled. Later's scheduler page describes scheduling one post to up to 10 profiles at once but no spreadsheet import. If you plan a month in a spreadsheet, Postprism's Bulk Upload takes a CSV of up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file on every plan.

Verdict: a tie that depends on your mix. Pick Later if Snapchat matters, Planoly if X matters enough to post it by hand and you want grid tools such as first comments and product tags.

AI writing

Later has a Caption Writer and an Ideas tab, described on its AI tools page. Both draw on one monthly credit pool: a caption costs 1 credit and each credit gives 3 ideas. The pool is 5 credits on Starter, 50 on Growth and 100 on Scale, with 100 more for $3.75 a month on Growth and Scale. Later says the Caption Writer generates captions in your brand's voice from your past posts.

Planoly's AI Caption Writer asks what the post is about and who it is for, lets you pick a voice (Basic, Professional, Witty, Casual, Bold or Custom) and returns three caption options. You assign a caption to one or more channels, and each channel gets its own editable copy. It needs a paid plan, and the help article does not mention a credit limit.

Both tools write a caption and then copy it into each network for you to rework. Neither returns a different, network-shaped version for LinkedIn, X and Instagram from a single request.

Verdict: Planoly, for most people. Three options per request on any paid plan is more generous than Later's 5 credits on Starter.

Analytics

Later lists platform analytics for Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, Facebook, Threads and Link in Bio, with history of up to 3 months on Starter, 1 year on Growth and 2 years on Scale, and a shareable link to an Instagram analytics report.

Planoly reports on Instagram, Facebook (beta), Pinterest, TikTok and LinkedIn (beta), with views for the last 7, 30 or 90 days, on paid plans. Instagram gets the deepest view: reach, content views, interactions, new followers, demographics and per-post stats. For custom date ranges or a shareable read-only report link, Planoly's analytics guide points you to its MCP connection with Claude or ChatGPT.

Verdict: Later, if you need history beyond 90 days or a ready report link. Planoly, if LinkedIn reporting matters to you, even in beta.

Team and approvals

Later includes 1 user on Starter, 2 on Growth and 4 on Scale, with more at $3.75 a month each, and lists content approvals on Growth and Scale.

Planoly includes 1, 2 or 6 users by plan. Its team members guide describes an Owner, who invites and removes people and manages the workspace, and members, who can create and schedule posts. The guide does not describe an approval step, so a member can put a post on the schedule without anyone signing it off.

Verdict: Later. If a client or manager must approve posts, Later Growth does that and Planoly, from its own documentation, does not.

Inbox and engagement

Later's Social Inbox brings comments from Instagram, Facebook and TikTok and direct messages from Instagram and Facebook into one place, with replies and per-message assignment for teams. It is only on Growth and Scale.

Planoly's product guide describes an inbox for reading and answering Instagram comments and DMs, and automations that send a DM to anyone whose comment or story reply matches your keywords. Its pricing page lists "Automate Instagram DMs" on its plans.

Verdict: Later for a team inbox across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Planoly for Instagram DM automations that turn comments into leads or sales.

Link in bio, store and mobile

Both include a link in bio page and mobile apps. Planoly goes further for sellers: its Creator Store is included with every core plan and covers digital products, merch, courses, memberships, bookings and tipping. Later's pricing page lists Link in Bio on every plan and Best Time to Post for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, with a multi-profile view on Growth.

Verdict: Planoly, if you sell to your followers.

API and MCP (AI agent access)

Later's pricing and scheduler pages, checked October 2026, do not mention an MCP server or a public API.

Planoly has the Planoly MCP, which connects Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Gemini CLI. Once connected, the assistant can list workspaces and channels, browse the media library, read and edit drafts and scheduled posts, schedule posts and pull Instagram analytics. Drafting and scheduling work without a paid plan; media library, analytics, report links and product tagging tools need one. X posts scheduled this way are still reminders. Planoly does not document a public REST API.

Verdict: Planoly, clearly. If you want your AI assistant to manage the calendar, it is the only one of the two with a documented way to do it.

Who should choose Later

  • Brands that post to Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat and want them in one planner.
  • Teams that need content approvals and a shared inbox for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments.
  • Marketers who report on a year or two of Instagram history rather than the last 90 days.
  • Anyone who wants Best Time to Post suggestions on the calendar.
  • People who post a modest amount: 30 posts per profile a month on Starter is enough for a daily Instagram post.

Who should choose Planoly

  • Instagram-first creators on a budget: Starter is $14 a month billed annually with unlimited posts.
  • Creators who sell digital products, merch, courses or bookings through a link in bio.
  • Accounts that use Instagram comment-to-DM automations to capture leads.
  • Small teams of up to six on Pro who do not need a formal approval step.
  • People who want Claude or ChatGPT to read their calendar and draft posts through MCP.
  • Anyone who wants a free mobile plan with 10 posts a month before paying.

Who should choose neither

Both tools are built around Instagram. That is a strength if Instagram is where your audience is, and a cost if it is one channel of several. You will feel the gap if:

  • X is a main channel. Later does not support it, and Planoly only reminds you to post it yourself.
  • You are on Bluesky. Neither tool lists it.
  • You upload full YouTube videos. Later names YouTube Shorts as its YouTube format.
  • Your LinkedIn post should not read like your Instagram caption. Both AI tools write one caption and copy it to each channel for you to rework by hand.
  • You plan in spreadsheets. Planoly's bulk create stops at 20 drafts at a time, and Later describes no spreadsheet import.

A third option: Postprism

Postprism is a social media scheduler built for the case where one brand posts to many networks. It publishes to LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and Pinterest from one calendar, and each post holds a separate, editable version for every network you select. It is the better fit than either Later or Planoly for teams that want every network covered at a flat price.

Why it fits multi-network brands better

  • One flat price for all 6 networks. Solo is $19 a month for one workspace with one account on each network, so one brand on all six networks costs $19. Freelancer is $49 for 3 workspaces and 3 members, and Agency is $99 for 10 of each. Every plan has unlimited posts and starts with a 7-day free trial. See pricing.
  • A version for every network in one request. Write once and click Enhance with AI. Postprism returns a separate version for each network you selected, shaped to its length and style, using your brand name, industry, tone, values, audience and key messages. Anything over a network's character limit turns red so you can edit it, and nothing is trimmed without you seeing it. Plans include 150, 500 or 2,000 adaptations a month. See AI content adaptation.
  • X and Bluesky publish automatically. X posts go out with up to 4 images, and Bluesky text posts go out on schedule, alongside everything else.
  • Full YouTube uploads. Upload videos with a title, tags, privacy setting, playlist, thumbnail and made-for-kids setting.
  • Approvals from $49. Owner, Admin, Editor and read-only Viewer roles, with an approval step on Freelancer and Agency: an Owner or Admin approves or requests changes before a post is scheduled. See team collaboration.
  • Your AI agent can run it, on every plan. The hosted MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients 11 tools to upload media, list connected accounts, create, edit and schedule posts, and read analytics. Freelancer and Agency add a REST API. See AI agents.
  • Spreadsheet scheduling on every plan. Bulk Upload takes a CSV with content, scheduled_at and an optional media_url, up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file.

Where Later or Planoly may still suit you better

If your work lives inside Instagram, with a grid preview, Reels and Stories, a link in bio store, DM automations or a shared comment inbox, Later or Planoly is built around exactly that. If you post one brand across LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, YouTube and TikTok and want each network's version written for you, Postprism covers more of your week for one flat price. For the detailed head-to-heads, read Postprism vs Later and Postprism vs Planoly.

A worked example: one brand, five networks, two people

Take a small skincare brand. It posts daily to TikTok, three times a week to LinkedIn and X, and weekly to Pinterest and YouTube. Two people share the work, and the founder wants to approve posts before they go out.

  • On Later: Growth at $37.50 a month billed yearly covers two users and approvals, and 180 posts per profile is plenty. X is not supported, so those three weekly posts need another tool or a manual routine. YouTube is Shorts.
  • On Planoly: Growth at $24 a month billed annually covers two users with unlimited posts. X posts arrive as reminders that someone publishes by hand, and there is no approval step, so the founder reviews posts some other way.
  • On Postprism: Freelancer at $49 a month covers 3 members and an approval step. One Enhance with AI request turns the founder's draft into a TikTok caption, a LinkedIn post, an X post and a Pinterest description, each editable, and all five networks publish automatically.

Planoly is the cheapest bill here. Postprism is the one where every network, X included, publishes on its own and every post is approved first.

How to choose in five questions

  1. Is Instagram more than half of your posting? If yes, start with Later or Planoly. If no, start with Postprism.
  2. Do you post to X or Bluesky? If yes, Later is out, Planoly means posting X by hand, and Postprism publishes both automatically.
  3. Does anyone need to approve posts? Later Growth and Postprism Freelancer both have approvals; Planoly's documentation does not describe one.
  4. Do you sell through your bio link or run DM automations? Planoly is built for this.
  5. Do you want an AI assistant to do the scheduling? Planoly and Postprism both have MCP; Postprism adds per-network AI versions and a REST API on Freelancer and Agency.

The verdict

Later and Planoly are both good Instagram planners, and the right one depends on what sits around Instagram in your week. Later is the better choice for teams: approvals, a Social Inbox across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, Snapchat support and up to two years of analytics history. Planoly is the better choice for creators: a lower price, unlimited posts, a link in bio store, DM automations and an MCP connection. If your posting spreads across X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, YouTube and TikTok, Postprism is the better fit than either, with a separate version of every post for each of 6 networks at a flat $19, $49 or $99 a month.
