Buffer vs SocialPilot: which should you choose in 2026? Buffer vs SocialPilot, in short: choose Buffer if you post to a handful of channels, want a free plan to start and like a simple queue with analytics on its first paid plan; choose SocialPilot if you run an agency or a multi-brand team that needs a social inbox, client approvals and white-label reports, because its account bundles get cheaper than Buffer per account from about ten channels up. If what you actually do is post one brand, or a few, to many networks with a tailored version for each, Postprism is the better fit than both: all 6 networks in a workspace for $19 a month flat, a native version for every network from one AI request, and an MCP server for AI agents on every plan.
Buffer and SocialPilot are both established, well-reviewed schedulers, and they solve the same core problem: get posts onto several networks on time without logging in to each one. They price that job in very different ways, though, and they put their effort into different places. Buffer is built around a clean queue for individuals and small teams, priced per connected channel. SocialPilot is built for agencies, priced in bundles of social accounts, with an inbox and client tools layered on as you move up its plans. This comparison sets the two side by side on cost at real team sizes, networks, AI, analytics, approvals, inbox and agent access. Every competitor price and limit below comes from the vendor's own pages, checked October 2026, and is listed in the Sources section at the end.

Buffer vs SocialPilot pricing compared
The two tools look similar on a feature list and behave very differently on an invoice. Buffer charges for each connected channel, so the bill rises by a few dollars every time you add a profile. SocialPilot sells plans sized by the number of social accounts, so you pay for a bundle and top up when you run out.
Buffer pricing (checked October 2026)
Buffer's pricing page lists three plans:
| Plan | Price per channel | Channels | Users | Key limits and extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Up to 3 | 1 | 10 scheduled posts per channel, 30 days of insights, AI Assistant, 1 API key |
| Essentials | $5 a month ($60 a year) | Priced per channel | 1 | Unlimited scheduling (fair use cap of 5,000 posts per channel), unlimited insights history, reports, first comment, hashtag manager |
| Team | $10 a month ($120 a year) | Priced per channel | Unlimited | Everything in Essentials, plus approval workflows, custom access and permissions, branded reports |
Buffer says channels 1 to 10 are priced at the standard rate and channels above 10 cost less per channel, but the page does not list the discounted rate, so the figures below for more than 10 channels are upper limits. Paid plans come with a 14-day free trial, and nonprofits get 50% off.
SocialPilot pricing (checked October 2026)
SocialPilot publishes its plans on its plans page and in an agent-readable pricing file, which lists these US prices:
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Social accounts | Users | AI credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $25.50 a month | $30 a month | 7 | 1 | 500 |
| Standard | $42.50 a month | $50 a month | 15 | 3 | 1,000 |
| Premium | $85 a month | $100 a month | 25 | 6 | 5,000 |
| Ultimate | $170 a month | $200 a month | 50 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Contact sales | Custom | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Extra social accounts are $4 a month each and extra users $5 a month. Premium adds unlimited client seats. There is no free plan, and SocialPilot's pricing page offers a 14-day free trial.
What each costs at real team sizes
Plan names hide the real question, which is what you pay for the setup you actually run. The table below prices five common setups at list price. Buffer figures use its per-channel rate; SocialPilot figures show the yearly-billed price first and the monthly-billed price in brackets. Postprism is included for reference, because it prices by brand (workspace) and team size rather than by channel.
| Setup | Buffer | SocialPilot | Postprism |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo, 1 brand on 3 networks | Free, or $15 on Essentials | $25.50 ($30) on Essentials, without analytics | $19 on Solo |
| Solo, 1 brand on 6 networks | $30 on Essentials | $25.50 ($30) on Essentials | $19 on Solo |
| Team of 3 with approvals, 3 brands on 5 networks (15 accounts) | Up to $150 on Team | $42.50 ($50) on Standard | $49 on Freelancer |
| Team of 6 with client approvals, 5 brands on 5 networks (25 accounts) | Up to $250 on Team | $85 ($100) on Premium | $99 on Agency |
| Team of 10, 10 brands on 5 networks (50 accounts) | Up to $500 on Team | $170 ($200) on Ultimate | $99 on Agency |
What the numbers say. Buffer wins at the small end: its free plan covers three channels, and Essentials at $5 per channel is the cheapest paid way to schedule to two or three profiles. Once you need a team or approvals, Buffer's Team plan at $10 per channel climbs quickly, and SocialPilot's bundles become far cheaper per account. At 15 accounts with three people and approvals, SocialPilot Standard costs well under half of Buffer Team's upper figure. At 50 accounts, SocialPilot Ultimate is about a third of it. One catch with SocialPilot at the low end: its Essentials plan does not include analytics, which start at Standard, so a solo user who wants reports pays $42.50 or more.
The setup that neither prices well is one brand posting to many networks. Buffer charges $30 for one brand on six channels and SocialPilot $25.50 or more, while Postprism Solo covers all six networks in one workspace for $19 a month flat. Buffer vs SocialPilot feature by feature
Price is only half of the decision. Here is how the two compare on the jobs a scheduler does every week, again from each vendor's own pages in October 2026.
1. Publishing and networks
Buffer's supported channels are the wider list: Facebook Pages, Instagram business and creator accounts, X, LinkedIn Pages and profiles, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profiles, Start Page, Mastodon, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Bluesky and Substack Notes. A few come with caveats. Facebook Groups and Instagram personal profiles use notification publishing, where Buffer reminds you to post rather than posting for you; TikTok is also listed as notification publishing in that table; and YouTube is listed as Shorts. Mastodon, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Threads, Bluesky and Substack need one of Buffer's newer plans, so people on legacy plans have to move to add them.
SocialPilot's pricing file lists ten networks: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube, Google Business Profile and Bluesky. It does not cover Mastodon, Start Page or Substack, but YouTube is listed without the Shorts qualifier.
Both tools offer a visual calendar and drafts. Buffer's paid plans add first comment scheduling, channel groups, a hashtag manager and custom video covers, and its bulk upload takes a CSV on every plan, including Free: up to 10 posts per channel per upload on Free and 100 on paid plans, for text and single-image posts, but not for YouTube, videos or carousels. SocialPilot puts bulk scheduling and CSV upload on Premium and above, which matters if you plan a month of posts at a time on a smaller plan. SocialPilot's pricing file lists mobile apps and a content library on every plan.
Edge: Buffer for network breadth and bulk upload on cheaper plans; SocialPilot for YouTube listed without a Shorts limit and for agency-scale account counts.
2. AI writing
Buffer's AI Assistant brainstorms ideas, rewrites posts, adjusts tone and length, summarises long content and crafts platform-specific versions for LinkedIn, Threads, X, Instagram, Bluesky and more. Buffer's pricing page lists it on every plan, and the AI Assistant page says it is free to use with a free account. Paid plans also include unlimited AI reply suggestions for comments.
SocialPilot's AI Assistant covers caption generation, writing posts and improving them, on every plan, metered by AI credits: 500 on Essentials, 1,000 on Standard, 5,000 on Premium and unlimited on Ultimate.
Both assistants work on one post at a time. You ask for a version, check it, then ask again for the next network. That is fine for a few posts a week and slower when every post goes to six or seven networks.
Edge: Buffer, for unmetered AI on every plan including Free.
3. Analytics and reporting
Buffer gives Free users 30 days of insights, and Essentials unlocks unlimited history, a performance overview, custom analytics, reports and custom UTM parameters. Team adds branded reports. Analytics depth varies by network: Buffer lists advanced analytics for Facebook Pages, Instagram business accounts, X and LinkedIn Pages, basic analytics for most others, and none for Google Business Profiles or Bluesky.
SocialPilot starts analytics, PDF reports, email reports and scheduled reports at Standard. Premium adds custom reports, competitor reports and white-label reports, and Ultimate adds advanced white label. For an agency that sends branded monthly reports to clients, that is a real strength. For a solo user on Essentials, it means no analytics at all.
Edge: Buffer for individuals, since analytics start on its first paid plan; SocialPilot for agencies that need competitor and white-label client reports.
4. Team, approvals and clients
Buffer keeps it simple. Free and Essentials have one user each. Team adds unlimited users, approval workflows and custom access and permissions, at twice the per-channel price.
SocialPilot builds up in steps. Standard includes 3 users and content and manager approvals. Premium includes 6 users, client management, client approval workflows and unlimited client seats. Ultimate has unlimited users. Extra users are $5 a month each.
Edge: SocialPilot for agencies, because client approvals and client seats are built in. Buffer Team suits a growing in-house team that wants unlimited users and does not mind per-channel pricing.
5. Inbox and engagement
Buffer has added community features to every plan: reply to comments, comment scores, comment insights and turning comments into posts, with saved replies and AI reply suggestions unlimited on paid plans. Buffer's channel list shows which networks support community features; Pinterest, Start Page and Substack do not.
SocialPilot's Social Inbox handles comments, messages and stories, with inbox automation, from Standard upward. Because it includes direct messages, it is closer to a full inbox than Buffer's comment-focused tools.
Edge: SocialPilot for teams that manage messages as well as comments; Buffer for light comment replies on any plan.
6. API and MCP for AI agents
Buffer is more open on the API side. Every plan, including Free, includes API keys: 1 key and 3,000 requests a month on Free, 3 keys and 7,500 requests on Essentials, and 5 keys and 15,000 requests on Team. Buffer also has an official remote MCP server at mcp.buffer.com/mcp, described on its Claude integration page, for drafting posts, reviewing the queue and scheduling from Claude, Claude CoWork or Claude Code. The page does not say which plans include it.
SocialPilot keeps its API for Enterprise customers, by request. Its MCP server is on all paid plans, according to its pricing file, and lets compatible AI assistants create, save as drafts and schedule posts to the right accounts and client groups, and track queued, published and missed posts. The MCP page shows logos for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Visual Studio Code and Gemini.
Edge: Buffer for developers who want an API on a low plan; roughly even on MCP, with SocialPilot clearer about which plans include it.

Who should choose Buffer
- Creators and solo marketers on one to three channels. The free plan covers three channels, and Essentials at $5 a channel is the cheapest paid option in this comparison at that size.
- People who want analytics on a small budget. Unlimited insights history and reports arrive on Essentials, where SocialPilot needs Standard.
- Anyone posting to Mastodon, Start Page or Substack Notes. SocialPilot does not list them.
- Developers and tinkerers. API keys come on every plan, and Buffer has an official MCP server.
- Teams that plan in batches on a small plan. CSV bulk upload works on every Buffer plan.
Who should choose SocialPilot
- Agencies with many client accounts. Bundles of 15, 25 and 50 accounts cost far less per account than Buffer Team, and extra accounts are $4 each.
- Agencies that send client reports. Competitor, custom and white-label reports start at Premium.
- Teams that need client sign-off. Client approval workflows and unlimited client seats are on Premium.
- Brands that answer messages, not just comments. The Social Inbox from Standard includes messages and stories.
- Multi-location businesses. Google Business Profile is listed alongside the main networks, and high account counts are priced in bundles.
A third option: Postprism
Buffer and SocialPilot both count accounts. That works if you have a few channels (Buffer) or dozens of client accounts (SocialPilot). It works less well for the most common setup we see: one brand, or a small number of brands, posting the same idea to many networks, each of which needs its own version. That is the job Postprism is built for, and for that job it is the better fit than either.
- Flat pricing by brand, not by channel. Solo is $19 a month for one workspace and one member, Freelancer $49 for 3 workspaces and 3 members, and Agency $99 for 10 of each, with unlimited posts on every plan. Each workspace connects one account per network, so one brand on all six networks is $19. Every plan has a 7-day free trial. See pricing.
- A native version for every network in one request. Write once and choose Enhance with AI. One request returns a separate, editable version for every network you selected, shaped by your brand identity, with 150, 500 or 2,000 adaptations a month by plan. See AI content adaptation.
- Six networks. LinkedIn profiles and Company Pages, X posts with up to 4 images, TikTok video and photo posts, full YouTube uploads with title, tags, playlist and thumbnail, Bluesky text posts and Pinterest image Pins.
- Bulk scheduling on every plan. Bulk Upload takes a CSV of up to 200 rows and 2 MB per file from Solo upward. See bulk scheduling.
- Approvals without paying per channel. Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer roles, and an approval step on Freelancer and Agency, where Owners and Admins approve or request changes. See approval workflow.
- Agents on every plan. Postprism's MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients 11 tools to list accounts, upload media, create and update posts and read analytics, on every plan. The REST API is on Freelancer and Agency. See AI agents.
- Analytics on every plan. Impressions, reach, clicks and engagement rate per network over 30, 60 or 90 days, with CSV export on Agency.

The verdict
Buffer is the better pick for individuals and small teams on a few channels: it is free to start, cheap per channel, and gives you analytics, AI and an API on low plans. SocialPilot is the better pick for agencies with many accounts that need an inbox, client approvals and white-label reports, where its bundles cost a fraction of Buffer Team. If your real job is getting one brand, or up to ten, onto many networks with a tailored post for each, Postprism does that for a flat $19, $49 or $99 a month.
